Weight question My Scooter is Yorkie/Silky mix , both mom and dad are on the smaller side, around 6-7 lbs. I took Scooter to the vet yesterday and he weighed 5 lbs at 3 months. How big would you guys think he might get? Thanks Kay:animal36 |
It has been my understanding to double the weight at 3mos and add 1lb. I am sure there are other ways also. Carol & Buddy Of course there are always exceptions to the rule. |
I was told double the weight at 12 weeks so he may be a big boy. I have also read here that the rule is broken quite often. Only time will tell. |
My Banjo is 12 weeks and weighs 6lb. His mum was 9lb and his dad was only 5lb so I guess hes going to be a big boy. Doesnt really matter, still love him all the same. |
I'm not sure you can really guess. Stomper was 3 pounds at 8 weeks and 5 pounds at 3 months...he is now 18 pounds! The vet told me 8, then 10, then 12...I gave up! He ended up being a BIG boy! I don't think you can use the calculation in all cases since they all vary.:) |
It does vary tremendously. My puppy and another puppy from the same litter are on totally different spectrums of the scale. Maizee weighs in at about 2 1/2 pounds at 1 year and her littermate weighed in at about 9 lbs, so it even various in family members. |
You really can't just look at the parents.....the grandparents and really the whole line should be considered. A puppy may have small parents but huge grandparents. |
Thanks for all the replies. It really doesn't matter, I wouldn't trade him for anything in the world. He is the sweetest dog. This is my first yorkie, I have 2 toy poodles, and din't think I could love any other breed, but he is so human like. I know that sounds funny, but his expressions just crack me up. Thanks again, Kay:aimeeyork |
