I'm a new York owner. We got Banjo 4 weeks ago, and he was 7 weeks, he weighed 2.5lbs then, and now he is nearly 12 weeks and weighs a whopping 6lb already. He is very long and tall. He does not eat much breakfast, around 3tbls kibbles. then lunch is 3tbls kibbles and 1 tbls wet mixed, same for supper. He would eat more, and always seems hungry. Mooching around the kitchen floor for scraps. He gets 1 or 2 cheerios for treats or bits of raw carrot. His mother was around 9lb and his father only 6lb. My boy I think is going to be a monster. He gets lots of exercise, we have a huge yard and take him on walks every morning. How much bigger is he going to get? should I get him tested for hyperglycemic or anything else. Should I be feeding him more or less. Input would be appreciated also some pics of what a 12 week puppy looks like. I have a suspicion that the breeder did not give me his correct age, as out of a litter of 7 there was only 3 males left when I got Banjo.

A Yorkie that had a litter of 7? Obviously it happens, you just never hear about it.

You know what? If he's got an appetite and he's not over weight right now, I'd offer him more. Maybe a full cup a day if he's active. A lot depends on what you're feeding too.

Either way, it doesn't sound like there are any red flags indicating that he's in ill health. But if you're concerned truely, take him to your vet.

I would give him more food ! I give mine a 1/3 cup of food three times a day .Weight question _at 8 weeks Triple the weight at 12 weeks Double it.-This will be his adult weight.So if he is 6lbs at 12 weeks he might be 12lbs when he is adult.I have two yorkies They are both 13lbs. The oldest is Peanut- Peanut's Mom is 6lbs and Dad is 3lbs. The next is Thumper- Thumper's Mom is 16lbs and Dad is 5lbs. You cant always tell about how big they will be when they are adults.Thumper has a brother and sister under seven lbs. He is the only one that took after his mommy. Just remember a 12lb dog is still a very small dog .

I certainly wouldn't worry about what I'm feeding him as far as his size goes.

There is a real difference between being "fat" and just being a large dog. And, if he's genetically programmed to be "large" --- that is the way he's going to be.

Just think - you can't have a little girl - that is going to be 6 feet tall - and keep her short by not feeding her very much.... she'd just be 6 feet tall and very skinny and probably not very healthy.

***** My "little Yorkie" is 14 months old and I'll bet he's close to 14 pounds. He just keeps growing and growing and growing. He's not tall - a little long in the back - with somewhat short legs and he's built like a brick. He is a little rollypolly like a pup - but definitely not overweigh -- just solid. I took him to the vet who bent over to pick him up and said, "Wow - he sure doesn't look like he weighs that much...." -- which he doesn't. He said, "Do you feed him rocks?" (He has two brothers from the same littler - full grown - one weight 6 pounds and the other 7 pounds. I just got the big little Yorkie.) And - they were all the same size - when I picked out my pup.

PS: My Yorkie is still a little dog - and just as cute as he can be. He has an absolutely beautiful silky wavy coat and a little face that you would die for. He's not a barker, is very loveable, playful, and affectionate. He's just sweet and loves everyone and every animal he meets.

You're dog probably isn't overweight - and he's just going to grow to whatever size he was meant to be.

7 weeks would be pretty early to be letting the puppies go -- maybe he is older (did you get papers?), but maybe he is just a big boy. Either way, I would just love him and let him eat a little more to support his size.

Thanks guys feeling better now. I guess he is just going to be a big boy, relatively speaking. course still love him lots no matter what size.:)
