Moving my yorkies Quick Question? We are thinking about relocating from Tampa Florida to Colorado has anyone out there tried to acclimate 2 Yorkies into that type of environment? I'm so concerned it will be too cold for them. However, my older Yorker appears to like the colder weather but he has not seen the likes of snow or 5- weather? What do you think? |
Are they outdoors much now? There's quite a few YorkieTalkers in cold parts of the country like Colorado and Alaska, even... I would think they can become accustomed to colder climates, but there's always the option of clothing for them. :) |
I bought my last 2 yorkies from a breeder in Florida. They aren't real crazy about the cold weather and snow but they are getting to where they go outside once in a while but usually come running back in real quick. I bought them sweaters but it took a week to get all of the mats out of their hair when I took them off so wont be doing that again. LOL!!! Barb |
I am near you in Rifle.. I am over near Vernal and go to RIfle often have relatives in the area,,, Parachute and Grand Junction.Mine like cold as opposed to warm but they grew up in it. It is both of my babies forst winter and my older female prefers cold to hot, Bon |
I have a 9-pounder and a 4-pounder who have learned to deal with Alaska winters quite well. I dress them in booties and coats and keep them moving during our walks. I would think that a Florida Yorkie could learn to adapt, especially if you get them used to it gradually. It's interesting how they adapt. We just got back from a vacation in California, where the temps were in the 70s and 80s. My guys loved it, and now that we're back in Alaska they're balking at walks in the snow again. I'm just going to back off on the length of our walks, and I'm confident they'll forget all about the California heat in no time. |
Thanks for all your responses. It sure makes me feel a lot better about moving them. My boy Yorkie does like the cooler weather we have in Florida but he has never been in snow and I'm not sure how they will react. He hates sweaters and such. I guess we will adjust. Thanks again.: |
