Oily hair is it normal for a puppy to have oily hair...the breeder i am getting her from said she has been on newspaper and needs a bath but i was just wondering if that was all she will need. also, she is 4 months old...can i get her hair cut short already or is it too soon? i mean i know it would't hurt anything but just wondering how fast their hair grows...thanks for any help! |
My little girl's hair is oily too. I think it's not unusual for the breed. I have to bath her every week because I can't stand her hair by week's end. When you do bathe her, make sure to use a good shampoo and a conditioner but rinse, rinse, rinse out the conditioner or it will just add to the oiliness. |
Thanks so much!!! Do you use a particular shampoo/conditioner that you would recommend?! |
Most people on YT use cowboy magic for they're yorkie..http://www.cowboymagic.com/ |
So cowboy Magic is made for Horses, but you guys use it for your dogs? Where do you buy it? Petco, Petsmart...? |
My pup had his first trim at 3.5 months and his coat got a lot better after the puppy frizz has been cut off... The hair WILL be back before you know it :) |
I got my pup when he was 8 weeks old, and he had the worst hair I have every seen in every way --- and yes - it was oily. He needed a bath almost eery day - and even with that after a little petting, he was as oily as every. It was really very bad........ And, his hair was bad in other ways too, matted, couldn't comb it, etc. ---- So - from the day I got him - I started trimming off that baby hair. I took it off his tummy entirely and cut the rest of it as short as I could. And, as soon as it grew a little - I trimmed it again. Within a couple months - his baby hair was gone- and he was beginning to sport a very beautiful coat of hair that wasn't oily. His hair today is silky (wavey), doesn't tangle, and is as soft and shinny as it can be. And - he no longer has an oily coat. ****** So I would suggest keeping him in a cute, darling puppycut until all that awful baby hair is gone. Then - I'm sure you'll see a lot of improvement. Greasy and "Smells" bad too Hi, I am taking care of my 8 yr. old Grand Yorkie Dog and I can bathe him and he looks great for 1 or 2 days, then he starts to get greasy, stringy and smells "like a dog", shhhh, don't tell him I called him a dog! :p He thinks he is the BOSS... Could this be from age, shampoo, food, treats or what??? He has been to the vet with some skin issues and I have tried their suggested shampoo, but, one made him worse and the other seems not to help! He is a licker and a scratcher and he doesn't have any fleas. He scratches so hard sometimes that he makes red spots on his fragile skin. I will post a picture of this little man when I figure out how and get more time! Thanks! Sparky's Grammy |
This is by far the best I have found and I have just about tried it all. I don't like the Cowboy magic shampoo and condtioner, just the detangler in the tube,That stuff is great! For shampoo try this, you will love the reasults and the smell is wonderful.http://www.touchofmink.com/prod_details.asp?id=15 |

Wait, I thought you got a little boy? Are you getting a 2nd yorkie? Or did you change your mind and get the little boy instead? |
Thank you Shadow, thank you for this information and your opinion. It looks very interesting and I will be ordering some. This little "guy" sleeps with me and anywhere else he chooses and I do need "smell" relief. ;) :thumbs up |
Shadow RE: Dog food He was being fed Eukanuba Adult Small Breed - Reduced fat and he gets a small portion of Cesar canned food (twice a day)along with a few doggie treats(alpo and dog bones) or a small piece of pupperoni. I think he was on Imes dry food before the Eukanuba. He doesn't get table food, but does sit patiently hoping! LOL |
