If not pee-pee then what??? Ok - I'm a little confused about what is going on when males are marking their territory. This may be a really dumb question - but is it actually urine that is coming out?? If not, what is it? Also, Tucker has only lifted his leg twice (that we've noticed) and both times it didn't seem like anything was coming out. Every other time he pees he usually squats. Is he lifting his leg to mark his territory?? Thanks! |
I'm fairly certain it is still pee-pee, just smaller quantities when they mark, like they have a little in reserve at all times just for this purpose or something... My Tucker is 5 months old and has almost completely stopped squatting now to pee. He will nearly always lift his leg unless he's in a big hurry like when we get out of the car from a trip or something. The leg lifting is cute since he can't always quite balance right - he uses a litter box so it goes on the sides and just stays in the litter. Yay! |
It's still urine. The difference is when a male is marking his territory only a little comes out. Ever had an unaltered dog come over in your yard? Watch how many times he can go, on everything. If you don't neuter your male, they'll mark their territory, INSIDE and out. |
Good to know! We are planning on neutering him soon (he's almost 5 months). Hopefully we can prevent him from marking the whole house! |
I am sooooooooo afraid of Stewie marking his territory. He's six months and hasn't started lifting his leg yet. |
My yorkie is 1yr old, and we actually haven't been able to neuter him because he's been so sick for so long. He just had surgery to get some bladder stones removed to try to repair a liver shunt but they couldn't find it. Anyway, he is 100% pee pee pad trained, and sometimes he squats, but sometimes he lifts his leg. Either way he still keeps it on his pad, thank goodness. When I take him out for walks on his leash though he just HAS to pee and mark his territory what seems like every 10 steps. Lol. Hopefully, he'll get better soon so we can get him neutered. |
The others have explained it well. But, wait til your alpha female hikes her leg and pees 4 inches up on a table leg. Or, comes in the house last cause there is just one more wee pee she has to mark over. Not funny!!!! |
