Uh Oh!!! Help! The main reason that I put off getting a yorkie asap to now february-ish is beacause of my cat. My cat is really dominate. We have to keep my beagle whose three times the size of him downstairs becasue we've tried to let them meet several times, my dog is fine and tries to go sniff him and whatever but my cat gets all huffy and tries to attack him! Even if you try to stop my cat he'll bite you! I don't know what to do when I get a yorkie and I have to introduce them. What do I do? Keep them away from each other? Or try and get them together while the yorkie is young but only while I'm there? If I can figure this out I can get my yorkie quicker. Anyone have the same problem? |
Is the cat declawed? I would keep a little puppy away from a cat that attacks. Especially one that has claws. I have a cat and two yorkies but she just stays away from them. She is old and she is also declawed |
I don't know much about cats but I do know that it's best to introduce dogs to each other on neutral ground. |
Hes 8 and declawed.. hes kinda cocky and struts around the house.. hes pretty much been the only guy around here andhe hisses abd even growls at all males. Hes basically fearless. I just wich he'd figure out that he needs to chill out. |
Neutral grounds? Where could I go? My cats an indoor cat and would runaway if we bring him to a park... |
I don't think neutral ground would work for cats. They aren't territorial like dogs. If he is declawed I'd let him and the puppy work it out with supervision. After being swatted at a few times, the puppy will learn to avoid him. Also if you swat the cat when the cat swats the dog, he might learn to leave the dogs alone. Actually I believe keeping them apart has only added to the problem. Cats and dogs usually get along if they are allowed to work it out. I would not leave them together alone, but while you are around let all three of them work it out. My one cat used to want nothing to do with the dogs, now he sleeps in their bed. The other one will hiss and swat at them every time they get near him, but he never hurts them. Usually he tries to avoid them. |
Both of my cats are declawed, so they can't hurt Grayson, Pepper will play with him and Dusty bats at him and hisses. We kept a really close eye and it took the cats about a month to warm up to him. Good luck |
