How long did your puppy bark/whimper/growl/try to escape for when you first started crate training? and how long did it go on for? |
It's a personality thing I think. Connor never fussed, Cricket will still have such a fit that she makes herself sick. I keep her crate beside me while I'm getting ready in the morning and she shares a crate with Roxie at night. During the day she stays in the puppy pen with Remi. She just hates to be alone and I doubt that changes. She's 5 monthes old now. |
I agree that it is def a personality thing. Diezel did all of that from time to time the entire year that I would crate him. He just never really liked it unless he was super tired. Then after I moved he freaked out in the crate worse then he ever did. So no more crate. But I did keep him in an expen for the first 6 months that I had him during the day when I was at work. And my old roomate was always in and out of the house and said he was totally content every time she checked up on him. Now he has run of the apartment (no that big) But he is well trained and doesnt get into any trouble so I feel comfortable leaving him out. |
Ohhhh....can you say whine? I thought for sure she'd grow up to hate that thing, but she's in it now, just taking a nap, door open. I'm thinking it took about a good week before the worst of it quit. That and she finally "got it" that when she whined in the middle of the night, I'd take her outside. |
Ummm...the crate DIDN'T work. We tried for a few minutes...a few hours...and all she would do was bark and scream and carry on. We finally stopped when she was 5 months old and switched to an xpen. Now that we have the pen, she's more used to being in there while we're at work, but we still have issues with her being alone. I kept the crate for travel, or when/if it's ABSOLUTELY necessary. I took the door off and put a blanket in there to see if she'd just go in there for fun. She won't. Right now our humidifier is sitting on top of it :) I honestly think she's clausterphobic (sp?)-she hates it in her crate, or being confined to a room where she can't see out. But, she's fine in her xpen, in a big room, or in a purse/bag where she can see what's going on. |
2 days, off and on for an hour or two. All of mine have been within that time frame. I put treats in their crate every night, really good treats that they love, they also get fed in their crate. The first night the would whine or whimper, I would put soft music on, the louder they got, the louder the music was turned up. It didn't take them long to realize that they couldn't compete with the music and they learned to be quiet. It only took each of them a couple of days. I trained all 6 of them this way and it works like a charm for me. They all now love their crates, because they know they get special treats in them every night. Now they can't seem to get into their crates fast enough, lol!! They will whimper and whine just to get in their crate and then they zoom right in as soon as I open the door. And they all sleep through the night without a peep out of them and I no longer have to turn the music on. I am thrilled that I found something that works for me, it has been used on 6 puppies and has not failed me yet!! |
