Stomper has been licking our couch for the past month. It is so gross! :eek: Did your pup do that? Stomper is 5 months old and has been teething. In fact, I found 2 teeth on the floor twice this weekend! Not sure if that could be why he is doing this... If this is normal puppy behavior? Do they grow out of it?

I wish Tucker would lick the couch! It's not as gross as licking the floor, walls, window sills, etc... He licks everything!!!!! :tongue:

Pain response??
 
Maybe it is a response to pain from teething?? I was told by my vet when my last yorkie, who had a chronic mouth/teeth infection, that the licking was his response to pain (also drooling is another pain response).

toby does this too......... i think he likes the texture of how it feels on his tongue :confused: we have leather couches, but he has been known to lick quilts, PANTS (these are a big one), the carpet, anything i guess

No, it is not leather. It is just cloth material - not sure if the exact name but is NOT leather!

Stomper is also drooling like crazy. Did your yorkie continue to lick the furniture or did it eventually stop?

I dont know abt that but, when my cat comes in from being outside he goes right to the big picture window and likes the blind... :eek: ,, I dont know what that is about but, he has dont this for years!
Maybe hes just helping with the cleaning!! ha

Both Oreo & Ginger Lick everything.. geez.. i even wake up to both of them licking each of my nostrils..

they lick.. the floor, also lick pants, shoes, carpet, bed, my pillows.. but they also chew A Lot..

I think some yorkies and other dogs are obsessive/compulsive ...Theres couch lickers...feet lickers - nail biters and foot biters...I probably could think of more but I think you got my drift - I have a cocker who chews her back nails and it's just a habit she has...a loud one - but still a habit.

klogan - keep in mind my last dog had a really bad chronic mouth infection so it was common for him to lick all the time and drool (not a lot). My lab snapped/bit twice at my current yorkie since I've had her which has been about 2 months now and both times she drooled a lot immediately afterwards but it stopped; it was her pain/fear response at the time. Maybe your little one is just in discomfort from teething and licking/drooling is his pain response. Or, from the sounds of it from what other people wrote, licking sounds like a typical yorkie thing. But, why the couch only??? Does he lick other things or just the couch?

He only licks the couch!!!? Isn't that strange. He is still teething though, so perhaps it will stop in time. I hope so. I have my couches covered with blankets at the moment so that he does not ruin them, if he hasn't already done so!
