Licking his private area? I bathe Howie every week, I wipe his peepee everyday, but sometimes I'll see him laying there licking this area. I'm really disgusted by it. :( I don't know what it is. I know he's not dirty, he doesn't go outside, and I'm just confused. Do any of your babies do this? Howie is quite the dirty little dog, hahah. He eats his poo and he licks his privates!! :confuse2: |
My furkid does this too, and yes it drives me insanly crazy. It's just really gross to me. |
I've always had dogs growing up...AND THEY ALL LICKED THEMSELVES. I just thought it is what dogs do. It's not because they think they are clean or dirty. Am I wrong? |

It is a dog thing, but it seems some do it more than lothers. Maybe he is bored. some will obsessively lick their feet. Getting a playmate for him might help. Or tell him to stop. At least them he'll go do it in private. |
Never had a dog who DIDN'T do it. :) |

Come on, you know they do it because they CAN:laugh: :o |

Seriously to the OP -- maybe you should stop washing it so much. It might be irritating it and making him lick more. I bathe Ben weekly and clean his face/chin daily -- but I leave the privates to him. With the exception of checking the rear end. So far though, Ben has been amazingly clean back there as well. I think it is the diet. Our first Yorkie needed daily attention to the hind end. But I only bathed her female parts weekly with the rest of her. |

Its true...all dogs do it! |
Thanks for all the replies. I didn't know all dogs do it. Howie is my first puppy. :) I just thought it was weird. But, now that I know it's normal, it's fine. Just wanted to make sure. As for not cleaning him as often, I read somewhere else, you should. Well, at least the hair around because I konw they drip so...yeah! |
