Daytime schedule - help! We just got a new yorkie a few weeks ago and he's now 12 weeks old. I work from home and I'm finding it next to impossible to get my work done. We have his crate set up in the laundry room with all of his toys, food/water, etc. I feel like he should get to be out all day since he's in there all night but I also don't feel like I can take my eyes off of him when he's out since we're working on housebreaking. So I end up doing no work unless I put him back in his room and then I feel guilty! UGH! Does anyone have any advice? Or a sample schedule? Generally speaking, how old are they before I can have him with me but not have to watch him like a hawk? Thanks! |
CoNgRaTuLaTiOnS on your new addition!!!!!! Here is an EXCELLENT sample schedule and some potty training advice that should work very nicely for you and your new pup: http://www.darnfar.com/Dog%20Trainin...ng_a_puppy.htm |
I suggest that you get a playpen or an ex pen, put in his toys and a pee pad, and put it in the room where you work. then he won't be alone and you won't feel that you have to keep an eye on him. |

I do exactly what Jeanie says. I have a human baby playpen with wheels so he can roll anywhere (although he does seem to be getting too big/active for this), mostly use it at night. I also have a hallway between the two dining rooms that forms a perfect area (sealed off with a baby gate) where Tucker stays in the breakfast and dinner hours so he can be near us, and then just yesterday I bought an ex pen and a vinyl flooring remenant so that Tucker can have an area in the carpeted family room. In these situations, Tucker is relatively wee wee pad trained, so it is working well. |
As per my breeder at that age he should not have more than 2 hours a day of activity scattered during the rest . The rest of the time he should be either sleeping or in your arms . |
1 Attachment(s) I just thought I would post this. He curled up and went to sleep while I was working on the computer today. He likes to get in the smallest possible place! |
awwwwwwwwwwww...he is adorable!! |
