To thoese who neutered/spayed their babies Have you ever, maybe once, for a minute or so, regretted having your pet fixed? Just wondering, hoping people will be honest with me... Like sometime you thought it would be nice for your pet to parent some offspring. I'm not planning backyard breeding, I hope no one will scold me for asking. I've got only one dog, male and I'm planning to have him neutered soon... |
Yes, I felt that way sometimes with Starr. She was so beautiful and everyone would ask if she was going to have puppies sometime, and if they could have one. Now I *sorta* wish that she did have babies, cuz she's gone forever. But I'll be getting Luna spayed, I have no interest in breeding at all, it's way too scary! |
When I got my first yorkie, I thought about possibly breeding her. But what convinced me to change my mind was her first heat. Having my furniture covered with sheets and towels and her in diapers when we weren't home was just not for me. I called her vet after only 2 days of this and asked how soon I could have her "fixed". Once her heat cycle was over, appointment was made and any chance of her having puppies was ended. Then, when I got Gabby and then Gage, it was a "no brainer" - off to the vet they went to get neutered/spayed. I've never regretted it for a second - breeding is not for me. Those who are breeders have my utmost respect. Good question - thanks for posting it! |
Nope, honestly...not for one second. Though Sophie is only 12 weeks old, I really have absoluely NO desire for her to go through childbirth. It can be a wonderful thing, yes, but it's also traumatic on the body and it can be potentially dangerous for the mom. Topher was neutered as soon as the vet would take him! I didn't for one second want to go through him marking, etc. Though childbirth can be wonderful, I've never looked upon it as something the pets are 'missing out on' because I'm having them spayed or neutered. I truly have so much respect for those who breed yorkies (or any dog for that matter) and do it well and do it right. It's a job that takes so much knowledge, love, skill, patience and just plain old fashioned fortitude. Those who devote their lives to it certainly deserve a pat on the back. |
We didn't have a choice with Joey, he didn't drop. Otherwise we would have let him breed. But I didn't want him marking his spots, or humping everything. He still does hump his toy mouse, poor thing! |
Never regretted neutering my two males. It made them better pets and also made life easier, because they started marking about a week before they were neutered. Now, we have no marking problems and they're sweet little boys. :) |
I have a male and a female. My male ended up getting 4 lbs more than my female so I couldnt have bred them anyway. I would rather have a male that doesnt mark and a female that doesnt go into heat |
I have never once regeretted getting Chloe spayed. Gidget wasn't spayed and I wish I would have done it with her too! I did not like it when she was in heat. I always worried that getting them spayed meant they would get overweight but Chloe is still as energetic as before! |
Good question!!!! The answer I dont regret having my little lady neutred she had 2 litters and needed c sections both times she was just "to posh to push" lol to much effort for a princess!! Her and pups were all fine but after he 2nd section I wouldnt want her to have to go through that again and repeat sections are not good my precious lady is my life not taking any risks!! As for my boy yes and no I do regret it in some ways. I am happy he doesnt wander or stray away like un-neutered males are and neutered males are apparently less likey to have heath problems in the future which is good. But he is just a perfect tiny male colouring is perfect his sisters have been in crufts and other yorkie owners approach me all the time when they realise he is a male about breeding thier females with him. I think it would be nice to have another pup one of jakes off spring. I think you need to be very sure you wont want to breed him in the future of you are going to have him neutred. Ruthx |
Yeah, I do regret it..but I don't want to add to the already overcrowded dog population while pets are being euthanzied at the shelters everyday. |
I had a German Shepard female, not altered, when I was a kid. I come from Poland and, 15 years ago, it wasn't popular to have pets fixed. You just dealt with the hormones, my friend had 2 small dog - boy and girl, littermates, and she had to go to extremes (like having her boy stay at a relative's house whenever the girl went into heat). Plus spotting, I admit it wasn't easy to keep the house clean with my big female LOL... And we never bred her, anyway. She did run away a few times while in heat but didn't allow any dogs close, now I know it was pretty irresponsible but that's how we did it back then... Still, when I told my mom I want Pepper neutered she was like 'You want what??!!', I guess it's still not popular  |
Nope, never! |
I don't think I ever worried about Starsky and Shylah not having puppies, but I did worry about Shylah and hormones. I wondered what a dog goes through when they lose all their female organs? Is it like a women dealing with Hot flashes? mood swings? I hated to put her through that as a puppy. I don't know, maybe they feel nothing. That is what I was concerned about. |
We have always spayed/neutered all of our pets...no matter what they were. Although w/ Mojo, it took me along time to get him neutered! But, I don't regret it at all! I just kind of wish I had done it sooner, but he doesn't mark in the house or anything, so we are good! I think it is natural for alot of us to think about breeding when we first get our furbabies! I did for the longest time........and had lots of people ask if they could use Mojo as a stud, but I never did........and I have never looked back or thought of it again! |
