Ok, Opinions needed desperately please :) I have been away for quite a while, tons have been happening. I am going to be a new mommy!! I mean I am having the baby..lol Anyways, so I have some questions, can I get some assistance please, because seriously its Gracies time to go into heat again and I am concerned about a few things. Please review the pics below to base your opinions by. 1st, she just had her 1st birthday, why is it taking her hair so long to grow and what is my options to help her hair grow faster? 2nd, she is about to go into her 2nd heat, and will be ready to breed w/ Bailey, she is 5 lbs. Bailey is 10 lbs. He has a cotton coat, from my understanding she has a more of a silky coat. Do you think I am right about the coats, and 3rd should it be ok to breed the 2 w/ such a weight difference and a difference in their coats? I am here to immediately reply, so any help would be greatly appreciated, because they would be left together all day tomorrow if things seem fine. My vet say they should be perfectly ok, but I just wanted to hear your opinions... Thanks... |
My personal opinion is that Bailey is too big.......but I'm not a breeder nor have I had experience but I thought the male was always suppose to be smaller than the female........I'm probably wrong so hopefully others will respond to your post with "accurate" information and not their opinion. |

do not breed a 10lb male with a 5lb female the pups could be too big and she could die |
yeah Bailey is way too big to breed with a 5lb female. |

Hi, I'm not a breeder but I agree with everyone else about the size difference. I think he's too big and not worth the risk of losing your little girl. Cute pics!! |
My vet say they should be perfectly ok ( Quote ) Ok for what , the well being of the Yorkie female or simply his pockets ? If my vet told me that , I would immediately search for another one . |
I agree with the rest I asked my friend this one she is a long time 25 years breeding and she said no way. She has had seen many breeders mate a bigger dog with a smaller female and 99% of the time the poor female has major problems. These can be, pups being to big and c section being required, this is if the pups dont get stuck during birthing and pups and mum can die. If the 1st pup gets stuck they all can die. Even a male dog a few lbs bigger can cause problems never mind double the size. I to would be finding another vet with very bad and dangerous advice like that, it may work for larger breeds of dog but not for yorkies. Ruthx |
so thank you everyone for your advice. I will not breed the 2. But I do ask this, how can I get a female for him and a proper male for her? Because Apparently I did something wrong when I purchased the 2. I was told Bailey would not get no bigger than 6 lbs. Please tell me what are my options now? Thanks!:) |
Keep them both as PETS, and leave the breeding to the professionals who spend years reseaching, and finding the best possible yorkies to breed. YMO, but if we all decided to breed just plain ol yorkies, what would happen years from now??? they would end up looking like YUCKies.. For the good of the future yorkie breed, Please do not breed ! Leave that to the pros......:aimeeyork |
If you are determined to breed your female, then you need to find a 3 lb male Yorkie that has all the breeding standards. And if you want to breed your 10lb male, then you need to find a female that is about 12 lbs, but then your going to be having BIG yorkies. If I were you, I would not breed Baily, IMO he is just to big. Good luck to you. |
I would not breed Bailey he is too big. For your female you could find a male as big as 5lbs and be okay |
i agree with everyone ! |
