Help - Indy is going bonkers for Tink!
 

My senior poodle is tring to mount my baby! We were fine the first week, but a couple of days ago, I heard her squeak and here was Indy trying to make little somethings! :confused: I tell him NO when he starts and he stops and looks quilty but he keeps trying. She wants to play with him so badly and she is very confused:eek: . Anyone have any advice. I'm watching them every minute. When I leave, she's crated, so she's safe then.

Is she in heat? If not then it is his way of showing dominance. Let him know that you are the pack leader and will not tolerate this behavior. Most any undesirable behavior can be corrected. Use your hand to nip at him and say no sharply. He'll soon learn that this behavior gets an undesirable reaction from you.

Can she be in heat so young?
 

She's only 10 weeks.:( But I don't know when they go into heat, I've never had a little girl furbaby. Maybe it is the dominance thing. He lets her get away with so much (eating his food and drinking his water and stealing his toys and chewing on his ears). Maybe that's his way of saying, alright missy - enough! I sure hope so.

No at 10 weeks she would not be in heat. He is just trying to let her know that he was there first and she will submit to him. Just keep after him when he does it, and it should get better once he knows that she is not going to challenge him for his spot.

OK. thanks for the advice. I'll just keep my eyeballs on them.

I also think you can stop this behavior..... but there are a couple things you need to do.

1) Be stern with him - he needs to know that you are serious about not wanting him to do this.
2) Be fast - get up and stop this behavior "immediately" everytime it happens.
3) Be consistent - never let him get away with it even for a few seconds - even if you're busy doing something else - stop what you are doing and immediately go and stop his behavior (and be stern and serious with it).

I think if you're consistent - and keep on top of this - you'll soon break this habit.

***** I may be wrong - but over the years - I have heard that poodles have the highest libido in the dog world. Is he neutered? So - I'm not so sure this is just a "submission" thing with your little poodle. He may be a little more serious about it than that!

My sister had a poodle years ago - and it got to the point it was embarrassing - because everytime anyone in the neighborhood had puppies - they were always part poodle (and she knew it was hers!!!!) So - she'd hide in the house with him for a few weeks --until the next time.

**** This was 40 years ago - back when dogs ran around a little more freely than they do today.

He's actually better this afternoon and evening. I think he's worried because I am so upset with him. He's always been so obedient and I've never had to raise my voice with him. It's a new thing for us. Poor little Tink doesn;t know what to think. She thinks I'm scolding her. So, I'm just trying to be really firm but give them lots of snuggles and kisses. Thanks for the advice everyone - I appreciate it.
