Car travel Canada to US with Yorkie Does anyone have experience driving from Canada to US with their dogs? What type of documents do they need to see at the immigration checkpoint? I have his rabies certificate and his 3rd shot certificate from the vet but I do not have the 1st and 2nd shot vaccination cert as the breeder did not give it to me. |

i cross over A LOT!! and they rarely even notice her... if they do notice her.. they ask if i have brought food over for her... you are NOT allowed food into the US unless it is in its original package (it can be opened) and the package has to say product of the USA on it. If it is product of Canada... well there are ways to cheat. i usually just put some food in a ziplock and put it in my purse.. if they are to search your car.. you are allowed to take your purse with you and therefore they cannot search it. Same rules goes for the treats as well. I have never had anyone asks for proof of rabies vaccine... so i doubt you will have a problem. WHen they ask if i have brought food with me.. (even tho there is a bit in my purse) i say no... she gets car sick if she eats... they dont' ask questions.. and on we go... happy travels! |
I often go to U.S.A. with Gazou and Heidi . They only asked me for the rabies certificate . I always bring the annual shot certificates with me , just in case they ask to see it . |
I have the rabies cert dated 12th of October 2006. Its fine right? They do not expect me to vaccinate him again before the trip. Am I right? Its interesting to know about the dog food and the treats. I wish I can hide him too but he is a little too big now to hide. He is a teapot :) I just checked. All his food and treats are imported from the US. yay! Its going to be a 9 hours drive. I am so glad my hubby decides to bring me and Siu Pao along and not let me stay alone at home during the holidays. I surely have to get the Bach's Rescue Remedy if we go. Not only Siu Pao have motion sickness, I do too :p So goes the saying like owner, like dog. |
Oh, how about returning to Canada? Does anyone have a problem before coming back? Siu Pao has no papers; meaning not CKC nor AKC registered. Is it okay? |

Hubby now said the hotel that was offered to him for free does not allow pets :( I will keep this post and the next round when we get to choose our own hotel, I am bringing him for sure! |
hey. just so you know (i'm all about breaking rules) you can bring the pup in the hotel . they will never know.. we do it a lot :rolleyes:. we ask for a room on the ground floor near a side exit... layla is "snuck" in in a bag... she goes out once before bed.. and voila! we are out and no one even knew! good luck! |

oh we are usually just there overnight... one night... ether in transit to somewhere else or something like that.. so she is never left in there... and you coudlnt' leave her cause housekeeping would find him! lol.... but layla has NO problem being in her crate in the car... so sometimes i'll leave it running.. if it is summer (i have two sets of keys.. one keeps it running.. the other so i can lock the door and get back in) and if it is cooler out.. i put a heating disk in with her... and she'll sleep in there for as long as i need to be where i am.. she loves the car... however... will not be left alone anywhere else :confused: odd... anways.. good luck! |
