Registration really necessary? Well, as you know we just got our little girl Savannah this week. The limited registartion box on her AKC papers is marked in, but that was our choice since we want to have her fixed so she will be as healthy as she can be. My question is, since we are not showing or breeding our little girl, is there really any point to registering her with AKC at all? She is strictly my little baby, nothing else, so I'm not really seeing the need here unless there's some loophole that I'm missing that makes it necessary. In all honesty, the fact that she's got 'papers' doesn't really concern us. We just wanted to make sure she was a purebred because we are allergic to regular dogs (no problems with her though!) and pedigree and all that doesn't really matter to us. |
If God forbid anything ever happened where you would have to rehome her it might be easier to get her into a quality home if she has papers. One never knows what the future will bring and registration isn't very expensive, so I say why not. Be proud of your pure bred dog, she's special. :) :) :) |
Both of mine have their papers but when I think about it... what a waste of $100. |
Both of mine are AKC "registerable" but we fixed both of them and figured there was no point in spending the money to register them with AKC. So, neither of mine are registered. |
There is no point to it at all. And if you ever have to rehome her you can give them the paperwork with her and let them decide. But if you don't show or breed, there is absolutely no benefit to registering. |
I don't ever plan on breeding or showing but I did register Sadie and I will Lillie too (as soon as I have an idea what color she'll be) but, I am only doing this just to have them registered. |
When I got my Bichon several years ago - I registered him - got the papers - put them in a desk drawer - and have never looked at them since. And - since he is a neutered pet - I agree - this was a waste of money. Soooooo - when I got my Yorkie, I didn't register him. I couldn't think of any reason to do so. So - in the end - I think it's just a personal choice - you might consider buying him an outfit and some toys with the same money -- **** Few of us would do this - but a donation to the local humane society would be a much better way to spend this money. Good luck --- Carol Jean |
This was taken off the American Kennel Club’s website. "The dog registration fee is $15 (The $15 application processing fee is non-refundable and subject to change without notice) . Registration Package Options: Gold - for an additional $27 you will receive: § Dog Care Training Video § Three Generation AKC-Certified Pedigree (traces back three generations of your dog's ancestry) § One year subscription to AKC Family Dog magazine Silver - for an additional $17 you will receive: § Three Generation AKC-Certified Pedigree (traces back three generations of your dog's ancestry) · Lost and Found Option - $12 § AKC Collar Tag - High quality white plastic tag imprinted with your dog's AKC registration number. § Lifetime enrollment with AKC CAR 24/7 recovery services for the life of your pet. A late fee of $35 is charged if the registration application is submitted 1 year after the date of the litter registration and $65 if the registration occurs 2 years after the litter registration date." So it sounds like registration is only $15.00 if registered the first year. I think it’s worth it especially the lost and found option of $12.00 more. Nancy |
