Not my style, but I'm glad he exists. You wouldn't be wasting your money buying the book, just don't take it as God's word. ;) |
I watch it whenever I can. It just amazes me what he can do with some of those dogs! I have found some real similarities between his style and that of my puppy school teachers. IMO, I think it is best to select bits and peices from several different training philosophies, to mix and match and come up with the training regimen that works best for you and your baby. |
I have the book. It has helped a lot. We are now walking instead of standing in one spot. :) Let me warn you though, at first I hated the book because he made it seem like you can't give your dog any affection. If you read on then you realize that he is saying to give affection at the right time. |

Have the book, but don't use it as the gospel. Just recently bought the 1st season on DVD. Seems to me...different dog...same advice (walk them and be consistant). I wouldn't buy the DVD collection again. |
I think a lot of Yorkie owners (and some other small breeds also) --- find it a little difficult to adhere to some of Caesar's ways of training a dog. Wonder why????? ----------- Personally - I am a huge Caesar fan - as are all my family and friends. Carol Jean |

My husband bought his DVD's for me, so we watched them... blah blah blah... My hubby says i treat Lillie to much like a human baby, so he wanted me to do it like ceasar does, YEAH RIGHT! I like my way much better! hahaha |
I think he is pretty amazing with the dogs on the show. I read the book and liked it. But some things that I think would work well, I don't do. One example is walking the dogs. They would heel pretty good if I told them to heel but I see their walk as time for them to run and have fun and explore. I really enjoy watching them running, smelling, prancing, everything. That is at the park. When walking on the streets I keep them pretty close because of traffic. |
My Husband is a big Caesar fan. He has tried some of the things Caesar does with Chachi but he never does with Jewels. He lets her get away with murder |
I have his book also and i would definetely recommend it! I am a big fan of Cesar and I learned a lot about dogs by reading his book and watching his show. |
dog whisperer Now one thing the dog whisperer doesn't do is walk a Yorkie. My female pulls on the harness no matter if we've walked one block or twenty. I know he uses collars, but I use harnesses with my dogs because I don't want them hurting their trachea. I guess I won't worry about it and just let them have fun. Even though he says a dog in front doesn't respect you as a pack leader! My male does not pull on the harness like my female does, but she is definately the alpha dog. |

I've read the book and found about half of it was about his background and how he became the "Dog Whisperer". I would recommend reading it, but I must confess that I do not adher to his method, only because I can not help but spoil my baby. You'll find out that some people here love Cesar and others don't. I have his book and first season DVD collection. Its like anything else thats advise...take what you think will work for you and throw out the rest. Somethings he suggests like a long walk, I have modified and make sure that Bailey and Tia get a good running workout, even in the home. We may play ball for 1/2 hour to an hour. It tires them out and they seem more calm and responsive to commands. Good luck!! |
Cesar Millan I just finished reading Cesar Milans book. I am hoping to try his method. My last Yorkie was agressive and I know now it was alot of my doing. I love treating my dog like a baby! It will be hard for me not to do the same with my next puppy,but I do not want the agression again. The only part I don't get is how not to be afraid when I am introducing my tiny Yorkie to a large dog. What if the other dog becomes agressive and it would be too late?! I just am not sure how that works. I want her to be sociable, but with a small dog it is very scary. How do I not transform that fear in my dog ? I need to get over that fear factor and I don't know how yet. Anyway, I have some time to figure it all out before I get my new puppy. |
I haven't bought the book, but I bought the 1st series on DVD. I just love his techniques. He has helped us. We got the girls & never walked them, too hot in the summer here in Fl. The pavement would burn their paws. So in the last month we were trying to start & Misha layed flat on the ground when we put the lease on her. We used what we learned from Milan & now she loves to go for walks. |
I just received two DVD's of his of his first 6 episodes which I do not get on my TV. I watched one and picked up some helpful hints. Yes we pamper our Yorkies but I believe we can make them better campanions. Even though they are small we forget that they are "DOGS". They are very smart and can easily get their own way and at times become aggressive or want to be ALPHA over us for a better word. It is happening with Buddy all of a sudden. I needed help, fast. I am glad he is there for any help I need. We need to be respected by our pets not bossed around by them. Buddy is 13lbs and can give some bite it he wanted too. A little 3lb Yorkie might not be so threatening. I want control over him at all times and want to be ALPHA in my home. Of course not all rules apply but he really knows his stuff. |
I think Ceasar is amazing! I also think when you are not in control of your dog and your dog is controlling you, you will create problems that are a danger to yourself and your dog. My coworker just came to work this morning upset, His poodle was hit by a car and killed right in front of him and his kids. You know why. Because he ran after a cat into the middle of the road while they were trying to put on his leash. Now I love to baby my Jaxson as much as the next person but when we fail to train then properly, we fail THEM. There is a time and place for everything but a dog that pulls or does not listen or darts out and god only know what else is being set up to FAIL. They are still DOGS and it is our responsiblity to protect them from indangering themselves, let them know who's the leader, not just dressing them up and treating them like children. We wouldn't let our kids do it why our dogs? |
