Need your advice... Teddy went to the vet yesterday and everything is fine. He got his last bordatella shots and distempo. Well the vet asked how his paper training is going and I said good except that he occassionally goes on the floor or somewhere else. She gave me advice on what to do and she said don't say NO to him when he goes on the floor because then he will hide from me and still do it. Then she said we should take a urine sample just incase, he might have a bladder infection. However I don't think it's really necessary because he's a puppy and I know all puppies still have accidents. He's almost 5 mos. Well his bladder was empty so she said if I can bring him in later on in the week and leave him for half a day so they can get a urine sample, a full cup. Also so he can get him lyme and lepto shots. But I'm not too sure if I should. I can just take him in to get him shots but I don't want to leave him half a day for a urine sample. I don't know if I can. I worry about him too much when he is not in my care. What should I do? Do you think the urine sample is so important? Or the lepto and lyme? All these vet bills are outrageous! I hope they don't charge me for the urine sample. I feel like they want money out of me but I could be wrong :( |
I think that all sounds a bit over the top. I would attribute it to him being a puppy still, and I wouldn't leave him there for a half day so they could get some peepee. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. |
Grayson is almost 5 months and still has an accident every once in a while. I think it sounds like your vet is going over the top. |
I opted out of the Lyme shot this year...I don't like vaccinating if it's not necessary. If you have deer that come into your yard or the little one goes out where there are or have been deer then maybe you should consider the Lyme shot...Neither one of my dogs have ever gotten Lepto...My vet won't give it to any of his patients...they have seen bad reactions to this shot. Just tell your vet you don't want your furbaby to get these shots...(unless you feel he needs the Lyme) |
Both my breeders said Lepto was a no no... |
I wouldn't leave my baby at the vet for something so rediculous. Hes still a pup all pups have accidents here and there they can't control their bladder yet. JMO |
ohh double post sorry |
It seems to me like the vet is just trying to get some extra cash Not only would I not leave him there for a urine sample, I would be looking into getting another vet, because now I would no longer trust them to give me advice in the best interest of the dog, rather than in their own best interest. You're dealing with a live animal here not a car, it's one thing if a car repairman suggests extra work to your car, but when dealing with one of these babies, I would not mess around. My vet is very practical and he makes suggestions and then tells me whether or not he thinks it's necessary. I can't see him putting the dog through any more than he has to. |
uncle They are waiting for you to cry UNCLE...educate yourself as to what a puppy needs and then if the vet does not comply...look for a new vet. He does not need lepto..if Lyme's is a problem in your area then you might consider it. He does not need to have his urine tested and the surest way to end up with a stressed out sick pup is to leave him at the vets when he is not sick. Good Luck |
OMG Thank you guys so much for your replies! I thought it was too much but I wasn't sure. He is still a puppy and I have read on the forum about tons of puppies that still have accidents..so i thought it wouldn't be necessary to give him a urine sample yet alone leave my little baby at the vet for half a day :( He will be too scared. I mean maybe if he were older and had tons of accidents and peed on himself then I would think he could have a bladder infection but not now. I think I might look for another vet because even when I started taking Teddy I have felt like they are TELLING me what to give him and not ADVISING me like they are supposed to. Like they would be like "Okay ths is what we are going to do...we are going to give him this and this and this". How did they know I had money for all that. Of course I want the best for my baby and even though I did find it expensive at that vet I still got him all his shots. The only thing he is missing is Lepto and Lyme, which they told me he NEEDS to get but now I guess he doesn't. I need to find out about the lyme still so I will see...but thanks guys! |
