What type of payments do you accept? I was just wondering how do you keep yourself from being scammed when you sell your puppies? Like if someone rights a check how do you know if it will bounce or not? Or if someone pays through paypal how do you keep from getting scammed with that? I have someone that wants to pay through paypal but am terrified of being scammed. Has anyone here ever been scammed? If so what happend? Thanks I am just getting really nervous now that puppies are about ready to go :( |
I would not accept a personal check from a stranger. I would insist on money orders. Paypal is pretty safe if you don't let the puppy go until the transfer is complete. |

They can cancel a transaction before you get your money but its not easy to do and paypal holds on to their money for two weeks in case there is a dispute. I also think Paying with paypal is safe for the seller. |
I've never taken payments for a pup through paypal because they could turn around and file a complaint against you...item not as represented or whatever. Cash or USPO Money Order is all that I will accept. |
Here's what happened to me with paypal once. I sold 2 outfits (around $45) that were shipped out of the country. Since USPO doesn't offer tracking numbers for the items, there was no way that I could prove that I sold it. My simple receipt from the post office was not good enough. Thing is, the person filed a complaint through paypal. My account was frozen and she got her full refund back. I never did receive back the outfits so she got the outfits, all of her money back plus I paid for shipping of these items so that's why I don't ship out of the country anymore. I've filed complaints with sellers before through paypal. One of the options for filing the complaint is Item not as described...Item not received, the list goes on. Sorry, but IMO, I wouldn't use paypal. |

I wasn't aware of that. It's good to know |
i used Paypal to send my deposit to Karen for Kandy and Frankie. I also received my deposit for Fancy Pants to my Paypal account. No problems at all. I always thought it was one of the safest ways to go. Of course I have only just sold my first puppy but am learning from my hubby. He never takes anything but cash and money orders so that is how I am going to do it. All these years tho of selling beagles, he has never had but one bad check. The banks are even looking at the money orders now. I saw an article about it on tv and have noticed at my own bank they are scrutinized more often. Usps money order is always safe. At least right now it is. |
paypal is good if your dealing with honest people but how many people out there get scammed EVERY SINGLE DAY????? All I'm saying is be careful! |
It is very sad that these days you have to be so careful about everything:( I know travaler's checks used to condsidered safe too and here in our sleepy little town someone tried to pass a fake one at our Walmart:eek: |
I only take paypal if I feel comfortable with the person. Then USPS Money orders or cash. If I ever mail anything, I use a signature confirmation. That way I have proof they received it. With paypal, I transfer the money to my bank account after I get it. |
Never sold a pup, but.... from my experiencing from BUYING them. The breeders usually ask for a deposit when you pick out the puppy and that has always been a check. I guess they figure if the deposit bounces then you get no puppy. And when it's come time for picking up the puppy, I paid cash. I think that's the best way to go. I have also had problems with paypal in the past too where I had to file a complaint (paid money and never received item). I think cash is your best bet. I don't think people will be offended. If they are....they get no puppy:animal-pa |
If they write a check, I require it be 7 days in advance so that if there is a problem, I will find out before they get the puppy. |
Well.... A good friend of mine accepted payment thru paypal and the folks got their money back and kept the puppy. We accept postal money orders, Bank Cashier's Checks, Money-Gram and Western Union. I have heard it said that you can get scammed thru Money-Gram or Western Union but I don't see how:confused: . You show an ID to send money for both. There are forms filled out and both insure your monies. To recieve monies from both, you must show an ID, fill out forms and sign for the monies. So, if anyone knows how a scam goes thru that, please enlighten me. Thanks, Teri:animal-pa |
