Pet Insurance Am considering getting pet insurance for Bailey. Does anyone have insurance for their pets? In your opinion is it worth it? |
Great post! I've been pondering about getting VPI for months now. I'm very interested in up-to-date info too! :D |
me too! |
Guys I am a huge proponent of insurance. Send me a private message if you need any advice. We have VPI and it has been a godsend. |
I have VPI for both Simon and Hallie and couldn't live without it. It is totally worth it and I would recommend it to anyone! I've had it for 3 years now and LOVE LOVE LOVE it! |
Can I ask roughly how much it costs in the US? Its a pretty new thing here in Aus and its not cheap! Costs about the same as health insurance for me! |
is it like an hmo with a copay or do you have to submit bills to get reimbersed??? |
I figured out the costs versus just paying my own money, and the only way I figured it would pay off is if (god forbid) something horrible happened and it costs $$$. |
I have always paid and then been reimbursed (a lot) but I know that some vet's will take payment directly from VPI. I pay $62 a month for both of them (total). It seems like a lot but it is so worth it. When Simon had surgery they paid all but $200! And I also use it for vaccinations, annual exams, emergencies. I've been really pleased. |

I just pm'ed you guys a little note about my experience. We pay $31 a month for Lola. We pay the vet and then I send in a claim. The whole process usually takes about 1 month. I think I heard that on average, they cover 40% of visits. |
I forgot to mention that most vets offer care credit. This is a credit card that you can apply for to cover vet bills. The cool thing about this is that we had no interest for a year. This made it easier to pay off after Lola had her orthopedic surgery. |
Hmmm I just found one that is offered by the RSPCA (big animal welfare organisation in Australia) and 20% of your premium goes towards funding their work...definately worth it! The premium is A$45 a month |
