DE-CON reminder! I was reading a thread this morning and it was talking about mice and using De-Con. I remember that when I was a kid, my neighbors little dog died from eating de-con that was set out to get rid of mice. PLEASE remember that if using this stuff to keep mice out of your house this winter.... keep it where your furkids can't get into it! Little dogs.... like mice... can get into some small places(inside and outside)... and if you think that they can't get to something, you may be wrong! ( I have seen Seymour try to get under our bathroom door in the RV when his ball rolled under it.... those little guys won't give up easily if they want something). TAKE CARE OF THOSE LITTLE FURBABIES YT!!!!!! :aimeeyork |

 Very scary stuff!! We use it in the barn and shop building, but "knock on wood", we have never had to use any in the house! I was told if we ever got mice in the house to use some sort of trap, not the old fashion kind, but some sort of enclosed box like thing w/ a thick sticky "goo" on the inside (don't know what they are called or where you can get them) That might be better for use around our little furbabies. Off subject: we "bomb" (bug bomb) our house about 4 times a year - I am REALLY anal when it comes to bugs in my house (flies, spiders, you name it). We go away for the weekend, so it can stay closed up all weekend. We get home and one of us stays outside w/ Mojo, while the others clean our bedroom first (top to bottom), then we put him in there and clean the rest of the house - it makes for a hectic day of cleaning and even though most products say they are pet safe, we don't want to take the chance! Oh, what us Yorkie lovers do for our furbabies!!! |
Great reminder... Last November I also almost lost my baby when he got into Decon. Believe me, it's not something I would want anyone to go through! I will never again have Decon (or any mice/rat poison) in the house. I found an alternative that is "pet friendly" called Rode-trol. I believe it's corn-based, and they say the mice will eat it, and then go to sleep, become coma-tose and die. Not supposed to affect dogs or cats. If I ever have to use it, I don't think I'll put anywhere that it's accessible to the dogs though. Please, please, please, DON'T!!! You may think your dogs can't get to it -- I thought so too -- and over $1000 later -- he proved me wrong! I found the Rode-trol at a feed store. Or google it to find where you can get it on-line... |

Great Reminder. De-Con should be avoided all together. I saw on a show not to long ago that if I pet (or other animal) injest a mouse that was poisoned it'll poison/kill the dog. |
Great reminder! I think it's a good idea to find an alternative because we all know, with our yorkies, they get into things we never think they will! |
Thanks for the reminder! If our babies want something bad enough, they will find away to get it. I never had mice in my parents house, and I hope I continue to never have mice in my new house. |

Thank you SO very much for the reminder. I have one of those little battery operated mouse "electrocution chambers", they work great, the only problem is the "clean-up". I DO NOT LIKE MICE.... Spiders and snakes I can handle, but roaches and mice scare me. |
