very upset 6 year old!! Our youngest daughter is very attached to our new litter of puppies (yes, we all are). Right from the start we have talked about how they will be going to their real homes when they are 8 weeks old. We had a lady come to look at our males last Sunday and Tori would not put her favorite little pup down for the lady to see. She kept saying, "I know she wouldn't like Eric"(that is what she named her little favorite). She overheard me talking about placing an ad in the newspaper when they were 6 weeks old and she started crying. How do other people handle this? Do any other breeder have trouble with their own children when they have to sell their puppies? I know Tori expects to keep Eric and I don't know how to handle it. There is no way we can keep another dog in our house (if I want my husband to stay). Any advice would be much appreciated!! |
Awww, that's so sad:( I have no experience with this, but would it be possible that the new owners could send pictures of "Eric" to your daughter? Maybe she'd be okay with him leaving if she knew that she'd still get to "see" him? Hugs to all of you:love: Tracy and Luna:aimeeyork |

I'm pretty sure she said she was going to place the ad when they are 6 weeks old, not let them go at six weeks old. There's a difference. Quote:

Yes, I am placing the ad at 6 weeks, not letting them go at 6 weeks. Sorry, it did sound confusing. Thanks! |
but you let them go at 8? sorry confused here:confused: |
aww that's so sad. :( I feel so bad for you for the situation you're in, and for your daughter because of the situation she's in. If this woman lives close by, do you think you could arrange play dates so that your daughter could see "Eric" sometimes? We have play dates with Tucker's breeder all the time! |
I hope he is placed somewhere close by. I think Tori would like to keep in contact somehow. That might make it easier. Yes, I am going to place an ad in the newspaper if all the puppies are not spoken for by the time they are 6 weeks old. They are going to their new homes when they are 8 weeks. I am hoping to find homes for them just by word of mouth and not have to place an ad. We got Addi when she was 6 weeks old and Romeo when he was 8 weeks old. I do know some breeders keep them longer than 8 weeks and some let them go at 6 weeks. My vet recommends 8 weeks. |

1 Attachment(s) Thanks for being concerned but don't worry. I already lost one pup due to my inexperience and I do not intend to lose another. I will make sure they are weaned and eating on their own and ready for their new homes before they are placed. 8 weeks is not set in stone. They will not go until my vet says they are ready. Our Yorkies are not considered our property or even our pets, they are part of our family! I just went in to put Belle and the puppies to bed and this is what I found. I think the puppies think Tori is also their Mommy! |

I'm thinking the bigger babies can go at 8 weeks. It depends on their size. I'm no breeder but that's just my experience. |
Oh how sweet It brings tears to my eyes. what a sweet heart. I know they have a very loving home there already. your daughter is a doll. I wish you the best and hope all goes well. Tell Tori , Lori Thinks she is a Angel to take such great care of all those babies. :littleang |

Awww...what a sweet sweet picture!! So it just is impossible for Tori to keep "Eric" for her very own special dog? I know I could not raise puppies for just this very reason. Good luck with whatever you decide, I hope it all works out for everyone, (especially Tori!) |
