Noise when breathing? Hey YT! I was just heading out into the city to go and meet my mother at the train and was taking Diezel with me when I notice something within the first 30 seconds of walking. First, please keep in mind that he get very very very very excited to go outsdie and is crazy from the minute he see the lease (harness) As soon as I put him down to walk he pulls like usual and then I notice this deep grunting noise almost like he couldnt breathe. It didnt stop him at all but of course it stopped me. I checked the harness making sure that it wasnt on the wrong way and its was fine. Nothing goes near his throat it is all under chest. And put him down and the same thing again. Needless to say I am freaking out because I have no clue what this is from. I am runnin late to meet my mother now and Do not want to take him because its just cruel to bring him outside and not let him walk a little but I am afraid  Has anyone ever had this happen when walking one of your furbabies? I have to run but hope that maybe someone can help so when I come home I can walk him.. I feel like I just teased him so bad :thumbdown |
How old is he? Sometimes if they have a bit of a collapsed trachea that could cause the honking sound on excitement but hat is usually in dogs over 5 years old. |

even a harness will push on the trachea...I bought one that they step into so there is nothing around the throat...actually there are several members here that make the harness vests...I have never tried them but, I have heard good things about them....I am planning on making some for my girls...maybe try this...especially if he already has a slight collapse. |
I had a 5 year old that would honk after getting excited and running aroung the loveseat a few times. I just calmed him down and we played a quiet game instead. It may have nothing to do with the harness. :) :) |

He is only a 1 1/2 years old I dont think this should be happening... Oh I see a Vet visit comeing soon. I try to keep barking to a minimum and excitment becuase I noticed that is when I would hear the light honking noise.. But today it was loud that a man on the street even gave me a crooked look :( |
my little guy does that as well when he gets excited or is on a walk. My vet says it si common in all ages of yorkies and they are genetically inclined to have a collapsed trachea and if you just get them to calm down when it is happening they are fine. but you should still let the vet know. I was told as well that it does not matter what type of lead they are on.. |
