I need SLEEP!!! :( Help me please!! I've had my yorkie for a week now (he is now 7wks old) and I am averaging about 4 hours of sleep a night. We have him in our master bath with a kid gate on the door. He has a crate in the bathroom that we leave open with all his goodies on the inside. He is waking up every 2-3 hours, crying and barking. The first night, I couldn't stand it and picked him up and put him in the bed. (of course, he stopped crying.) We have a high bed and he is still under a pound, so I am scared to death of him falling off or me rolling over on him. Any suggestions on how I can get him to quit barking? Will this end?? Thanks in advance. Kim |
I would really recommend crating him during the night. He will still wake up and need to potty, but he should learn quickly that his crate is 'home' and he will go back in willingly and learn that it's quiet time. We used the crate with Sophie and she was sleeping all thru the night within 3 weeks. |
Have you been ignoring him ever since? Or do you break dog and give him attention? A lot of time a puppy will settle down after a couple of days after he realize your not going to give him the attention if he barks or cries. However, you can also try using the water bottle (if you are close enough to spray him). |

My Baci rarely barks but when night time comes around he barks continuoulsy in an agressive manner b/c he wants to be held or sleep in my bed. I also have a very high bed and am concerned about rolling over him. When he barks I either yell at him or punish him but the water bottle sounds like a great idea. |
Maximus is getting better with the crate. My question is... How long does a yorkie sleep during the night, as an adult? He goes to sleep around 11:30pm or later and gets up around 6-7am and has to go outside, is this just because he is young or will this pattern continue? Just curious? |
I don't know what the norm is, but Sophie goes to bed between 8:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. and wakes up around 6:30 a.m. That's a *long* time to sleep, but I am thrilled that she's a good sleeper. She doesn't sleep much in the day anymore - we stay pretty so I imagine she's exhausted at night. :) |
I put Bella in her kennel beside my bed on the nightstand where she could see me. I did that for the first week then I moved her down to the floor. She does fine now. Maybe if your puppy is closer where she can see and smell you. |
