Shipping a puppy!!! Help!!! I am very undecided if I want to ship my puppies! I had a girl call tonight who wants one of the puppies really bad that lives out of state. I dont know what to do:confused: Can anyone lead me in either direction? For the breeders that have shipped their puppies how did you do it? Where do I start? Did everything go ok? What is the cost involved? Anything else you want to add about shipping would be appreciated :D Thank You:) |
WellTeddy was shipped to me and he got here safely. I paid an extra $250 and I think I heard if you pay another $25 someone will be right next to them thru out the plane ride. I'm not sure but when I want to get him the ppl there were all in love with him. |

A lot of breeders I contacted out of state charge $300 and use Continental. They can't guarantee the condition of your puppy or even that it will arrive alive because they are sent cargo and it is highly subject to weather conditions! :mad: I had mine shipped from Ohio to California and she flew with somebody in cabin for $275. I think that the young woman's mom was a stewardess' daughter and used her family fare rate to earn some extra cash. My puppy arrive safe and happy. |
I would not ship. Tooo many horror stories. If they are serious and concerned at all about the safety and health of their new puppy they will make the effort to come pick up even if it means them flying in to pick up. JMHO |
well I was very concerned about Teddy, but it was my first time getting a yorkie and I did not know much. I asked a lot of people about having them shipped, I even called the airline and they told me it was perfectly safe. I couldn't leave and go pick him up because I had school and didn't have enough money to do that round trip but I am glad he got here safely. They were watching him in the plane. |

Shipping Hi, I use Delta Pet First out of Charlotte Douglas Int Airport. They are very professional and my puppies have always arrived safely. I charge $300 for shipping which includes airfare, crate, bedding, a Veterinarian Health Examination, a Veterinarian Health Certificate, insurance on the puppy for the flight and a care package. The examination and the health certificate are required by the airlines prior to shipment and are only valid for up to 10 days. The care package includes puppy food incase of any unforeseen delays. If a client lives within a 500 mile radius, we use a ground courier service to keep cost lower for shipment and to give the puppies one on one care for their trip. I hope that this information helps. Shipping puppies My puppy was shipped to me (about a 3 hour plane ride). She was a bit scared when she arrived (animals are only allowed to travel as freight in Australia) but the freight guys were really lovely and got her out of her cage and gave her a cuddle. The biggest issue I guess is that if they are shipped as freight they have to be checked in about 90 mins before take off and then take up to 30 min to be unloaded....its a long time for a puppy not to go to the toilet. My little Bailey was fine within an hour of getting her home and she LOVES the crate that she was shipped in and sleeps in it all the time. It cost me an extra $170 but was more than worth it. |
My puppy was shipped to me using Delta. Delta is very cautious about the weather conditions. Peanut first flight was cancelled because of weather. He came home in August so we had to watch the weather. He arrived safe and sound didn't seem to bother him at all. My cost was $200 from Arkansas to Atlantic City Airport. |
I would have the person that wants the puppy to come & get them. We had Piper shipped, & she was in her cage for way to long. Took over 12 hours from when the breeder took her to the airport to where I received her. She was covered in poo in her crate & hadn't eaten. I gave her nutri-cal as soon as I signed for her. It was a horror story. |

They give you an exact time, schedule and it was really easy. Lola was 11 weeks old and about 1 1/2 pounds(looked so tiny in that crate). She did wonderful. The crate was large enough to have her little bed in it and toy. She flew from Alabama to Michigan. Some of us can't drive very far and this makes it easier to get that puppy we've waited so long for. If it wasn't for the shipping I wouldn't have been able to get my Lola and I can't imagine my life without her. My sister had her bulldog shipped and they were wonderful with him. Bulldogs have breathing problems(him especially) and when he seemed like he was breathing funny they even called a vet and had someone from the plane stay with him and comfort him. |
Jillandjack, for some of us flying to get the puppy isn't a possibility. I have no one to watch my boys if I leave the house, buying 3 plane tickets and taking two (11 and 9) with me wouldn't be an option, no matter how bad I wanted my puppy. We did all drive about 1 1/2 to the airport together and anticipate her arrival. I'm am so thankful that the lady I bought her from liked talking to me enough and felt so secure that she was getting a great home that she was willing to send her to me. In fact, she just contacted me yesterday to see how she's doing(she's almost 8 months old now). I sent her pictures and told her how much we love her. I live in a very small town and not everyone has a friend or family member they can count on to watch their children for them. Some of us have to do the best we can and only rely on ourselves. I hope anyone who thinks that if the new owner isn't willing to fly or drive to get the new puppy then they're not deserving of it. Just take every precaution you can, starting with a healthy puppy...and it will turn out fine. |
we have shipped beagle puppies all over the US and even overseas once. (won't do that again) but shipping in the U.s. is relatively safe. i know they have a few mishaps but the scale is small when compared to the puppies that are shipped. We have shipped for at least twenty years on a regular basis and have never had a problem except one dog missed his connection from PA to NYC and had to layover two hours. They are always in great shape when the new owner gets them. They do have to be nine weeks old. I would not hesitate to ship mine or even fly with it provided it was old enough and healthy. |
If you do consider shipping you need to check on security updates with the airlines. Most recent changes as of Sept. '06, has required that NO water (or liquids of any kind), bedding (other than newspaper) or food be included in the shipping of animals in crates. Security requirements not only apply to boarding passengers, but to all animals as well. Of course, this could have changed again since Sept. |
