Flying (out of your arms) Yorkie I have a dog "purse" that i keep lucy and tucker in, sometimes together, often only one in there. Tucker stays all nice and tucked in and wouldnt dream of jumping out. Lucy has flown out and if I hadnt broken her fall (no I didn't manage to fully catch her) she might be in real bad shape right now. There is a collar strap attachment I force myself to use w/her. But I am scared she will hang herself! She has also jumped off a 4th high stair and tried to jump out of unsuspecting other people's arms before. She is crazy. it seems she has no sense of height even though she has clocked her head pretty hard before. Do any of you have crazy flying dogs? Is it a puppy phase? or is it just the particlar dog? romeo has "no fear". i keep a close eye on him. the vet always reminds me that xrays are $200. |
when I use a carrier, I use a step in harness just in case they lean out too far and fall. It hasn't happened a lot, but the harness has always saved the day. Me-Me loves to hang out the front and you are right about a collar hanging them. I love the step in ones that are adjustable. |
We were just talking about this tonight. Ben is only 13 weeks old and he is fearless too. He tries to jump from my arms, off the sofa and off the bed. He doesn't just jump down -- he jumps out quite a ways and then comes down. It does look like he is trying to fly. Sort of like a squirrel! I hope he learns about heights before he hurts himself. I am lookinf for some steps to use beside the sofa and bed now. |
It must be something in the Yorkie. Piper does this also. I finally got stair for the bed. Misha has never been a jumper. I think it's the longer legs & spring Piper has. |
Flying squirrel is exactly it! Lucy tries to push off me, as if to get more horizontal flight time! :O Teresa |
I feel your pain Peeka is also fearless he will jump off,on,around, through, out of anything he is crazy but i think it's because i have 2 cats in the house with him and i think he thinks he's a cat lol |
My Cheri is a big jumper - lots of accidents happen because they don't realize how much they can hurt themselves and it's up to us to protect them - I'd get a good harness hooked up if you carry her in a carrier - one that will prevent her movement except for only inside....too many dogs break legs or worse jumping from high places ....and chest level of a human is too high to be safe... I doubt it's only a puppy phase..Cheri is 2-1/2 and still thinks she's Super-Girl with hair |
It is possible its a puppy thing as well, at least the aimless scary squirrel flying jump. Pete did this a few times as a puppy but doesnt do it anylonger.:) |
