Murphy and Mia making mommy worry! I am not sure what the deal is lately but Murphy and Mia have not been eating as well as they normally have. I have been putting their food down like normal in the mornings about 7:00am which is chicken soup for the dog’s soul and sprinkling it with some parm cheese since they used to love that. Than they get locked in the crate together till lunch time when I come home to let them potty and then they get let out again when I come home from work at 5:00. That is when they get their Caesar wet food with some dry. For some reason the last 2-3 weeks they have just been picking at it and not eating too much. They are not acting hungry or anything but I am a little worried why they are not going after their food. I tried some new foods lately but nothing - they are not even interested in that either. I wonder if I am doing something wrong like giving them too many treats or if I just expect them to eat more than they do. |
wow Caren, you and I have the same schedule :D :D :D sorry to hear none of the dry kibbles I sent worked although I think it is really the wet food that makes our furkids look forward to eating. I guess you just have to try to see what wet food they like. I have been using mostly Merrick but have since then ventured into getting other wet food brands (from CA natural, etc). I put a dullop of cottage cheese on top of their mixed wet/dry food and that always seem to be the perfect appetizer as it gets gobbled up first :p If you ate the same food day after day after day after day, wouldn't you eventually NOT want to eat it anymore :p |
I have pretty much tried every food - I honestly do not know what else to try. Except for the pure crap you can get at Publix or something like that - I am sure they would love that stuff - huh? :p |
I know how you feel, Caren. Hootie and Hobbs don't eat anything ALL day it seems, even though I leave the food out all day. They wait until right before we go to bed to chow down. I think it is because by that time, they know they aren't getting anymore treats. I have made the decision to not give them anymore treats during the day, only a small piece of a carrot when they should get a treat. I am hoping that will entice them to eat more food. Their food is so much better for them than treats. I would rather them eat less treats and more of their dog food. I am also going to try to use pieces of kibble as treats during the day. Maybe you could try these things. Yorkies are just so tiny and I am sure they fill up on treats pretty fast. |
They will not stave themselves put it down and when there hungry enough they will eat. |
Hope has done the same thing for weeks now. I have tried everything... but today I offered her Royal Canine for Yorkies and and she PIGGED on it... I dont know if it will continue to work for her but I sure hope so... d |
All treats will lessen what your do will eat at mealtime. I think sometimes we forget that only a "little bit here and a little bit there" can be a lot of food for these little guys...... A dog needs to be hungry to eat a good meal ---- just like millions of people I know - Carol Jean |

This is why I like to give my dogs treats that are good for them - meat -cheese - carrots - etc............ I consider this part of their daily food.... Carol Jean |
My kids have always been picky eaters, it has been so frustrating. Weird thing, I started using Missing Link, which I mix in with their wet food, and now they gobble it down. Not only that but Tiki (my Maltese) tearstains have all but disappeared. Who knew? |
I have really good eaters but noticed after they left the 'baby' stage their appetites dropped - my girls eat a little ...often - but as long as your guys aren't losing weight then I wouldn't worry TOO much - they may be just missing you and don't want to waste time eating :) ....seriously - you'd know if they were acting weak or sick and it just may be they aren't getting the exercise to make them hungry. |
You guys are so right - I guess I got all worried for no reason. Before my Yorkies I had a lab so comparing the two is always so hard! Mia has put weight on since I got her - which she needed too and Murphy just cleared 5 pounds (yippy) so I guess I am feeding them plenty! It is always nice to be reassured by my other neurotic Yorkie moms - hee, hee! Thanks again! :D :D |
How old are they? I think as they mature, they don't have to eat as much. That is what happened with Stomper. He is almost 2 and does not eat as much as he used to. |
