Freeze drying pets!! I was watching the news just now and there was a report on freeze drying your pets.....at first it totally freaked me out but then after I thought about maybe I would have done it when our Tesla died....we had her cremated. What is everyone's opinion on this? |
Personal decision........had my last little girl cremated....that's how I want to go! And will have my two kids now cremated when "it" happens.:( |
I have never heard of freeze drying pets...When the time comes for Jager and Lady I will have them buried, if I own a home at that time it will be in the yard and if I am still renting I will have them buried in a pet cemetery...I had made this decision years ago when I got Jager.... |
This news report really gave me chills.....After they are freezed dried, they look exactly like they are alive...just sitting there....reallllllly wwwweeeiiirrrdd. |
gross |
That would freak me out....I think it would also be too painfull. I would bury or cremate mine. |
Saw this done a number of years ago....Can't imagine picking up one of our baby's and having to dust it /vacuum them off like a statue:thumbdown We had both Lady Pricilla and Princess Tiffany cremated and their with us still right where they belong! |
I pictured the same thing....having to dust them off. However....at christmas you could give your kids a new meaning to getting a "stuffed animal"...I know..I know.... that was in bad taste but I'm sure someone was going to think that sooner or later. |

I agree, every time I looked over at my baby I would start crying. I would cremate mine. |
Personally it's freaky for me. I'd want mine cremated and have them with me at home (ashes). |
I'm seriously disturbed by this. Oh goodness, to look at them everyday and not be moving would cause me to be put in a mental facility. Heck no, I couldn never do it. Just my opinion;) |
UMMM.... I will have to pass on the whole thing.. if and when mine go... they will have them buried in the back yard. So that my babies will always be where I can talk to them.. and they will be buried like me.. I dont' want to be cremated.. therefore I wouldn't do that to my babies... JMO. But Freeze drying pets.. man think about what that would do to the pet you still have... they would go nuts.. trying to figure out why the puppy isn't playing with them.... then you would have to take it to a PSYCO doctor! What will they come up with next! |

I would also have a difficult time looking at the freeze-dried "version" of any of my furbabies. Real-looking, but not real. I've always had my furbabies cremated. :littleang :rbyorkie: |
 That is gross! I can't bear to look at hunter's trophies hanging on their walls ... can't imagine how horrible it would to see my baby sitting there like that! :thumbdown |
that's totally nuts! We love our yorkies like babies; but would anybody had a baby or a kid freezed dried if something happen to them???   I don't think so! That would be wayyyy too scary!!!!! I think I'll cremate mine. Does anybody know how much they charge for that? |
I would never do that. too painful |
http://www.pet-animalpreservation.com/ this was posted awhile back on another thread.......Freeze Dried Pets I believe was the post title, if you want to do a search on YT to find that thread........ Also, in that thread, someone posted about this place. http://www.pet-gems.com/ My family and I are not big fans of cremation.....we just aren't for some reason. AND, we tend to move around alot so to bury our beloved Mojo is not an option....... So, this pet-gems (even though it is cremation) will probably be what we do.....that way, we can keep him in a special way and with us all the time! |
That place is cool... I don't really care for cremation either...don't know why. But we don't move around alot, but that is so different - I like the idea. |
my uncle had his jrt stuffed:eek: it was horrible seeing her in a glass box posing, and as for freeze drying:eek: not for me. but i do like the idea of the pet gem. |
I remember them talking about this years ago. I thought is was real expensive and doesn't it take a couple of years to get it done? I always cremate our babies. I remember when eBay had a stuffed yorkie for sale. ICK Who would sell their poor dead, stuffed pup. |

We had our last dog Tesla cremated (we had her for 14.5 years...R.I.P) and I believe we paid around $100.00. |
Now that the Catholic church allows cremation, I'm getting cremated (also because that is what my grandparents are having done, and they are my "role models" when it comes to religion).Since I'm getting cremated, so will my furbabies. All of my pets have been cremated (excluding fish, hamsters), therefore I will continue to do so. I wouldn't want to have a freeze-dried dead animal. I couldn't imagine looking at it and knowing it's dead, not able to run around and be happy. I think that would make it harder and harder each day, just looking at a body like that. :thumbdown |
We have had and will continue to have our furkids cremated and kept at home with us until it's our turn, At that time our children have instructions to combine all of our ash's (pets included) and then scatter them to the four wind's in a place of our choosing with a simple God's Speed. |
