Is It A Yorkie? Recently, we got another yorkie. She is beautiful. Her name is Millie. We compared her puppy pictures with our other yorkie (5 years old) when she was a pup and they look very very similar in color and looks. However, one professional vet, at least 20 years experience, said he thinks she is a yorkie-poo. Our vet, on the other hand, said she looks like a full yorkie. So, I'm curious how these two professionals can mis-label my girl. Honestly, it really doesn't matter at this point because we are keeping her and she has stolen our hearts. Just curious what you all thought about this conflict between these two professional vets. How can I post a picture so that I can show Millie? |
u can go to manage attatchments and upload from there. or you can email them to me and i will post them for you. |
I don't understand how to use this program. |
When I click on Manage Attachment, nothing happens. |
you can always use www.photobucket.com and then cut and paste the link if you cant get attachments to work here |
The 1st vet I took Misha my maltese to didn't last. The vet walks in and say's, (what have we got here, a terrier?) I replied NO, a maltese. That gave me a BIG signal, I needed to find a different vet. Three vets later, I found a great one. |
Don't be too alarmed! Yorkies come in so many shades of color, to itty bitty to chunky monkeys. Long snout/short snort/big ears/little ears. I seen some be completely silver by 5 months and some still be dark at 2 years old like mine. I have a cotton coat so that always throws some people off. She is not the normal silky coat and looks like a Ewok/Chewbaca from Star Wars the longer her hair. She is 7lbs but her sister is 3lbs. Kinda like a box of chocolate- you never quite know what you are going to get. Some things are standard of course and it seems like if they don't look exactly the same, some think you have something different. But post a picture so we can see! :) |
If you want to e-mail me a picture I will post it for you danschaben@frontiernet.net |
I got a new puppy back in August...she looks NOTHING like Sadie did when I got her..(bought from the same breeder) Sadie is black/gold with a silky coat and Lillie (of course her coat is still changing) has a cottony coat and you can see she is going to change to silver/tan...I have had people ask if they are they same breed....Sadie's coat was shorter when I got her....in pictures people asked if she was a rottie! Lillie is very fluffy. but, they are definately both yorkies. |

Yorkies can vary a lot in appearance within the breed. If the parents are pet quality, offspring can and will drift further from the breed standard, which is what I have been explaining on this forum for a long time now. Veterinarians are not very well informed on various breeds and the breed standards for purebreds. They would usually not know by looking at a puppy or dog and be able to tellyou whether or not it is a purebred. Vets that work with reputable show breeders will know because they have seen them on a regular basis and actually learn from that show breeder, not the other way around. |
Did you figure out how to post the pics? I wanna see your baby! |
no, i have not been able to post a picture yet...but someone else offered me their personal email address so I will send my pictures to them to post for me...thanks |

Sounds good  |
I'd love to see a picture of the little cutie. :D |
It is very possible... All yorkies are different. Although they have standards -- they are not 100% (the standards that is) -- They are just like humans... even identical twins have something different about them... good luck anyway. |
