Wee wee pads and potty outside Advice needed please.I taught Ellie to potty on wee wee pads but would like her to potty outside. When it is cold and wet I have decided she can potty indoors. You try getting her out:rolleyes: What I would like to know is will Ellie learn to indicate that she wants out or will this confuse her? Has any one got any advise on this? She is only 5 months old at the moment and I dont want to confuse her as she is very good, hardly ever has an accident.:) Would I be better to leave it till next year with better weather or would she be too old? |
Our Toto is wee wee pad trained ... she is three years old. She began, on her own, to potty outside when we are on walks, etc. It's kinda like "the best of both worlds"!! When she's gotta go and we are inside she goes to her pad ... if she is outside, she goes outside. It's wonderful when the weather is yucky to have a well-trained Yorkie baby! ;) |
my view... I adopted my yorkie and she is 3 1/2 years old. She is almost 100 percent trained for indoor pee pads. I like it that way and would hate to subject her to the extreme north east winters. I don't want her to go out in the rain either. Besides my other yorkies would take a look out on a rainy day and run back inside. I agree with some of the other advice given. If she goes outside when we are on a walk, great. Otherwise I am happy she goes inside on her pee pads. I guess I am a very protective parent. Hope that helps.:) |
lexi has pads inside, outside on the deck and she goes on both, and i also walk her and she goes.... just put a pad outside of the house.. |
Our four females use both the pee pad and go outside. It works out wonderful for us. If it is a rainy or snowy day, they can just go into the laundry room and go. It is really nice when we travel and stay at a hotel...no going out at night with them. I just put a pad into the bathroom and they run and go in there. |
I meant to add that our yorkies are also trained that a walk is just a walk and they do their business in their yard or on the pee pad. I wish the big dogs would be like this. lol |
Bobbi is wee wee pad trained but he doesn't miss an opportunity to pee when I take the poodle out. |
I had my youngest one pee pad trained... but when I got my yard fenced in I wanted him to go outside with the other ones.... I started moving his pee pad closer to the door little by little.. then I put it out side one day... and when I saw him looking for it I would let him out... then eventually he just "GOT IT!" like oh -- ok I am suppose to go out here! LOL GOOD LUCK |
We got Jaxon in January and with being so small at the time, we trained him to use the pads. Gradually he started going outside more during walks. Late this summer we built an enclosure off our deck so he can go out there for his business in the morning, rather than a walk. I have been using the poochie bells and he's getting better with ringing those. He'll still use the pads but much less often. Sometimes it takes some convincing to get him outside when it's cold. |
Mojo was trained on pee pads, but he will also go sit on the door mat when he needs to go. So, he uses both. Sometimes, he will use the pads, if we aren't home or not able to get outside right then or at night. There doesn't seem to be any confusion about which to use. |
Thanks everyone for your replies. What is a poochie bell?I dont think we have any thing like that over here.I think I will stick with the wee pad for now until better weather,as you say its nice not having to endure the cold and wet especialy in the mornings:rolleyes: :) |
A poochie bell can be any kind of string of bells you put on the doorknob. They go to it & ring it to let you know they have to go out. Mine go on pee pads also, when I take them for walks, they seem to hold it until they get home. When we have taken them for a long drive, I've tried to get them to go outside, but they won't. I put a pee pad in the back of my SUV & they go on that. |
same question Wrighley is 41/2 months old, In the spring and summer I want her to go outside to potty. She uses pads now. Will that be a problem |
