Had to call poison control today!!! Well... Chewy ran into my daughter room today, it's always a mess and I never know what he might get into so I try to keep him out. He shot up the stairs past me and before I could get him he was in there... then running around like a nut. I knew he had something but couldn't catch him. On the floor next to him was a big glob of deoderent! he ate some so I looked at the warning and it said to contact poison control if engested... I called the vet and sure enough they told me to call the poison hot line... It cost 55.00 for the call!!!! It turned out that they thought he would be ok. If they eat deodernt and start coughing and gaging right away that is not too good. But he wasn't so I just had to give him bread and water... he seems fine but nothing got done cause I was cuddleing with him all afternoon to make sure he was ok!!! I had no idea that poison hot line for pets costs 55.00!!!! Did you guys know that? |
oh no..i'm glad hes okay! Yeah, I heard its expensive but isn't it worth it to know your pup is okay?:) |
Omg! Yeah someone else was talking about that on here the other day! I dont think they should be able to do that. It shoud be free if charge becuase it could be a life threatening situatuon. Thank Goodness your baby is ok! |

im glad your baby is ok but blimey thats pricey:eek: i cant see why the vet couldnt tell you what to do. |
I'm so happy that your little one is o.k |
Oh no this is my biggest fear. If I tell you my house is so puppy proofed I can hardly get to anything toxic... Im glad to hear your baby is ok :D |
$55.00...worth it, of course, but expensive nonetheless. This one, called Animal Poison Hotline, is $35- 1-888-232-8870. I believe there is a free number also, posted by Villette maybe? But I don't remember what that number is. So glad your baby is okay. I didn't think deoderant was toxic to animals. I've put deoderant on things as a deterrent for Baby so she doesn't chew on wires and such. That's the only thing that works and was recommended by lots of people here on YT! |
you can call the university of penn animal hospital for free advice. |
so glad he is doing ok here is a tread that has a free 800 Number. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...+poison+number |

Yea, that does go ouch, but when it comes to our babies possibly dying....I'll slap out that credit card number really fast myself! I have 2 numbers on my frig, and I wrote beside one that it costs. Think I got the 2 numbers I have from the post your talking about. |
I'm glad your baby is okay. My teenage daughter's room is a mess, too, so we keep a gate across her door just to ensure that Topher doesn't get in there. (sometimes it resembles a toxic waste site..lol) My son just makes sure his door is shut, but even then Topher sometimes can nudge it open. |
Im glad you baby is ok! But yes that is discusting how they make money out people, it should be a free number or at least a local call charge. |
Its always sooo scary when our babys get something their not suppose to! But its great to hear your baby is doing fine:) Its sounds strange but when Pete ate something scary (raw onion), I remember running to my computer googling something and coming up with my states local poison center which suprisingly gave advice for furbabys too and it was free. They told me everything I needed to know about toxic amounts of onion and also told me what signs to watch out for incase he got more than I knew about. Of course I just went back to google and now for the life of me cant find the website. Needless to say in any emergency I wouldnt hesitate to pay a fee but now I really want to find that number again hearing about the average charges everyone here has dealt with:confused: . Anyway I wont ramble on anymore but you could always check locally (if you can find it;) ) and maybe there wont be any charge. |

K-State's College of Veterinary Medicine has a free, 24-hour animal poison control hotline at 785-532-5679 |
Thanks for all the input! I did try the human poison hot line... they stopped me dead in my tracks and gave me the pet poison hot line!!! I told my daughter to clean her room like her life depends on it (Cause it does!!! ) If you look on the warning of a deodorant it says to call poison control right away!!! I was told if is not good for humans it is not good for fur babies either!!!! So I wouldn't put it on things you don't want your babies to chew...Chewy seemed to think it tasted pretty good! his breth was better for a little while!!! </IMG> |
