Oliver got hurt- PLEASE HELP! Oliver was caught up in a shuffle today. My roommate fell on the ground and Oliver cried. Then once my roommate got off the floor Oliver let out one more little cry and limped over to me. He wasn't putting any weight on his right left paw. I worked it over, tugged on it, pressed on it etc. No crying no reaction. He laid in my arms for several minutes. I tried to get him to walk, he wouldnn't use his paw. About 10 minutes later he tried to walk and would put his paw down but he limped (but put some weight on his paw) What should I do?? I'm freaking out! He will only take a couple of steps and then plop down. Right now he won't sit in my lap and is trying to wobble around the room. What is wrong? Please give me suggestions :( I'm balling like crazy and trying not to make my roommate feel bad at the same time. |
at the moment he is kimping around the house sniffling the kitchen floor for food (what he usually does!!!) but just going slow and limping. He won't lay in one spot right now- please?! |
I'd take him to an emergency vet and have it checked out right away. I'm sorry to hear he got hurt! We'll all be thinking of you. Let us know what the vet says! |
Oh sweetie I am so sorry to hear this. My Golden retiver was limping really bad today. I felt just like you. I Called my vet and asked if I should bring her in. She was just limping I could not find anything wrong and I went over it alot. She didn't even act like it hurt. I was lucky to have some remadle left from another dog and the vet said it was ok to give her. They thought i could keep an eye on her over night and if she was no better by the AM to bring her in. At least call the vet if not take your baby to the ER vet. |

i called the vet and they said to wait it out. Just the fact that when it happened he wouldn't put weight on it and then 15 minutes later was limping around the house putting partial weight on it... she said wait it out a day or two and if it doesn't get better then i should take him in said even if it is broken- it might be a toe or somewhere they couldn't cast (i think she said this because i told her he let me tug on his leg, and squeeze his paw) anyways so i'm just crying a little bit and cuddling with him. I'm a little worried he went from 110 MPH to 0!!! He was running and barking and now he is sleeping! Is it just because he knows he's hurt and needs to relax? Or could it be something else? |

I personally wouldn't wait I would take him right away. Even if it is nothing serious he may need something for the pain. PLEASE consider taking him to an emergancy vet. |
well hmmm he maybe is just tired and needs some down time. Amy the GR did kinda the same thing. When Daddy comes home she will go nutts and act just like the Yorkies but ot today. did your vet say you could give him some baby asprin? |
at the moment i'm stranded at my apartment with no car! And no baby aspirin. I'm trying to get ahold of my BF who has the car... I agree about taking him to the vet. But i feel as though I explained everything to her and she still wanted me to wait... at this moment i can't do anything else besides let him rest. :( |
#1 one thing right now is for you to try to stay calm if you are upset you baby will be too. if he is not in shock and is sleeping he'll be fine till you do what you need to do. :animal-pa BTW Amy the GR is almost totally back to normal it's been about 9 hrs from the time she started limping. |

I hope Oliver is better! Something like that happened to Maddie and by the time I got her to the vet...a few hours later, she started putting weight on that leg and by evening she was walking without a limp. I hope the same thing happens for Oliver! It is so hard to see them limping or hurting. Hugs to you! |
My Jack Russell is the original "boing, boing" dog -- up and down like a spring, running and jumping with no regard for safety. She winds up limping at least once a week. We first took her to the vet for these episodes, sometimes she would stop limping at the vet's office and we would feel foolish -- She really was limping on it before! Now we just gently squeeze along her paw and leg. As long as she does not react violently as if it hurts a great deal, we let her go for a day. So far it has always gone away. I think she just bruises herself, maybe even jams a joint occasionally. But nothing slows her down for long. We do have baby motrin that we can give her to help with the ache. That would be a good question for your vet -- ask how much you could give your little one if something like this happens. Hope all is well by morning! |
Oh Poor Oliver . .let us just hope that he was just traumatized by the incident . . .and maybe will feel much better to walk again tomorrow. Sending prayers . . .keep us posted! |
so far things are okay! He slept for about an hour and then was walking okay. He managed to jump off the couch without me catching him in time and was limping again for a little while but he is walking now without a limp. He is slow, but I think he's okay Thanks everyone!! Your support meant a lot to me in my moment of need! |
I'm so glad oliver seems to be doing better. I was worried for you. Amy is also doing better. I bet they just got bruses ( And both on the right front):rolleyes: |

Similar thing happened to Tatum when we first got her. It happened right before we had to leave the house for a church dinner. Her vet happened to be at the dinner and he said to just watch her for at least 24 hours before getting too concerned. Sure enough, she was back to new the next morning. I'm sure it does hurt the poor baby but right now he probably just wants to rest. Sounds like he's gonna be okay though if he let you touch it and poke around on it. I do agree though that you could/should probably give him some baby aspirin IF he still acts like it's sore today. Ask the vet how much but recently I gave Tatum a half a baby aspirin when she seemed to be sore from her shots and she's almost 6 pounds. Hope he's back to new soon! |
