Flea, Mites, Ticks or simply food allergy??? My baby has been scratching a lot for the past few days. I checked his skin but it looked clear to me. Could it be fleas/mites/tick problem or simply food allergy? He is on Innova Puppy Dry and I have applied the monthly Bayer Advantage Multi 10 on him. What could it be? How do I check for fleas and mites problem? What do you usually look for? Hopefully the experts can share some info with me. Thanks. |
I wonder if his skin is just dry from the weather. You know how dry our skin gets in the fall. When the heat comes on it zaps the moisture right out of our skin. Maybe some oatmeal shampoo. I also have been putting aquaphor in Molly's tummy. When I rub it, it seemed dry. It could be anything really. Do you have have a flea problem? Does he get flea treatments? Good luck!!:D |

I have not been bringing him out lately after his wheezing episodes but he does play with some dogs in our building. I am new in this country so I really do not know much about the fleas problem. Can you see them? Do they leave any white flakes or any spots on the skin that I can see with my naked eye? He is not on flea treatment right now because it is getting cold here. Any suggestion of which brand of flea treatment to use for a puppy? |
I wish I could help you but only have had a tick issue with a newly arrived dog. The ticks arrived with the dog. You can see ticks. I searched every square inch of this dogs body. They were seed ticks and looked like scabs to me. I had them removed by the vet since they were so large and bled. Bumping this up for you. I hope someone will answer it. If not send a pm to a breeder on YT. There are many nice ones. If you need some names of helpful breeders, send me a pm. Jessica |
When you turn them over and look at their belly you can normally see fleas crawling on them. This time of year is so dry too it could just be dry skin |
I also feed her innova puppy dry. She sometimes scratches but less compare when she was eating eukanuba. In addition, she was also coughing and wheezing alot at that time. I discover 2 mites and put her on revolutions for pet. She seems stop scratching and coughing now. |
Piccolo is on Revolution. He had his last dose in October (15th). The flee season in Canada is almost over but you should use something next year. |
Thanks! I don't see anything crawling on him. I checked him all over. I think he has dry skin. He did give me a good scare coz he was scratching more than usual and I freaked out everytime there is something different about him :P The vet prescribed him the Bayer Advantage tm 10 and his last tube is in end of November so that will last him till one month after application. Thank you everyone! :animal36 |
I use advantage for fleas and ticks. I am in the south and it doesn't get as cold so I use it year round. If you don't see any bugs such as fleas and ticks I don't know if like I said before it might be dry skin. Did you change shampoos? How often are you bathing? Are you using a conditioner? Do you see a rash? Maybe he just has an itch. I get itchy and I don't have fleas. HEE HEE Just kidding. I don't know. It could be alot of things. By the way fleas are very small. Tiny in fact you can see them though. Smaller than a grain of rice. They are reddish brown in color. I guarantee if your dog has fleas you will know it because they like to bite people too. Ticks look like spiders they have a round body with small legs I don't know how many. They bury their mouth into the flesh. If your dog has tick you probably won't see it moving around. it will be stuck to your dog. They look similar to a brown raised mole when attached. There that is your daily dose of parasite discribtions. I hope it helps. |

To check for fleas you hold the dog or cat over a piece of white paper and scratch their coat -- if you see little black specks on the paper that is flea poop. |
