Yorkies and collars OK, so I know collars and Yorkies don't mix and I have several different kinds of harnessess. My pups don't wear them in the house. I've heard some people say our furbabies should have a collar on at all times with their tags in case they escape and take off. Do people here put collars on their dogs and leave them on all the time? If so, do you leave it on when they are wearing their harness? Isn't it dangerous to have a collar on? Even when the pups are playing, they tug on each other's top knots, clothing or whatever - I can't imagine the fun they would have pulling on each other's collars! :D Just looking for advice and opinions from you folks with experience in this.. Thanks, omega |

You could always microchip yours for that extra safety if they escape! |
Kitty almost always wears her collar. I walk her with her collar on too. I haven't ever had a problem. |
I had a collar on Lola for awhile until one time I put her in the playpen and forgot to take it off. I found her with her neck attached to the net(the collar hooked onto the mesh :(. She is now collar free unless I need to walk her on a leash, which never happens at home. |
I have NEVER ever put a collar on my dogs and I never will. |
I keep a collar on Sadie at all times, because I'm terrified that she's going to run off on me. She runs from me, so if she ever got out,I'd be in trouble. We've never had a problem with her having it on. I use a harness to walk her, though. |
Winnie has a collar on at all times except for when she is in her crate (at bedtime). I feel a lot safer that way in case she runs off. We can't keep a harness on her at all times because she will try to chew that off. |
I keep a collar on all of my dogs at all times. They are the break away collars for cats. That way if they get snagged on something it will just snap loose. I have ID tags and bells on them so that I know where my dogs are and if they ever get lost, my phone number is on their ID tag. The bells are so that my husband won't step on them or if they are outside I can hear where they are if they get it the tall grass nearby. When I put them on a leash, I use the harness so that there is no pressure on their necks. |
Forgot to say, I do use a harness, but only when she's going to be on the leash |
Pippa doesnt wear a collar but she is chipped and wears a harness for walkies! |
Both Hootie and Hobbs wear a breakaway collar at all times with their tags on it. If it gets caught on something, it falls off. I also keep their collars on when we got on walks, but they are walked with a harness. You can get the breakaway collars at PetSmart in the cat section. |

Mine keep collars on all the time but, they have harnesse's for when I take them for a walk. I've not had any problems when they are playing with them pulling on each other's collars. |
No collar on Buddy, ever. We use a harness when walking, in the house his neck if free. If someone comes to the door, I pick him up and hold him. It is not worth the risk of getting caught on something when I am not home. |
Mojo has a collar, but never wears it. For going places and walks, he uses a harness, but we do not keep it on in the house. He isn't chipped either. But, he is never anywhere without us...and if we are outside and he is walking free, he is good about staying by us.......we live out in the country on lots of land (no excuse), but I wouldn't allow him to walk free (even w/ him staying by me) if we lived in town or near people. |
I used to have mine wear harnesses, now I have buddy belts and they wear them all the time. |
