What should I do!!!!!!! I got another puppy yesterday, I am so excited:D Well I got a 72 hour health check from the breeder. I brought her today to my vet. She said she heard a slight heart murmur. X-rays were done and the vd looks normal, but the lateral she said looked a little funny (heart was a little bigger than normal. What should I do. I'm going to call the breeder but I don't want to give her back, but I can't imaging loosing her in 1-2 years either. Help:aimeeyork |
That is a tough question. It's always a gamble as to their health. At least you know that there is a problem and you know that it might be an issue later. However I would talk to the breeder about it and see if they will adjust the price. In fact they should probably return all of your money because they will have a difficult time placing a puppy with a heart murmer, and they should be grateful that someone is willing to take the risk. I wish you the best of luck. |
heart murmur The exact same thing happened to me! My vet advised me to take the dog back which only made it easier since the breeder had a attitude about it. I only had the puppy for about 12 hours so I felt bad but I didn't want to get too attached. It took me 4 months to get over it an now I am waiting for my new little guy. I looked for another breeder through the YTCA. My breeder now already knows my story and knows I will not have a problem bring him back if he has a serious conditon. The problem with the previous puppy was he had 2 ear infections and a heart murmur. He had just had his health check that morning of the day I picked him up. When I took him to my vet the next morning all of this was discovered. I was out the money for the physical, microchip, and vaccinations. This time I will have the physical done BEFORE the vac and microchipping. |
I just talked to the lady. Her dad is the breeder in Ark. she is calling him to ask what to do? I have a 2 1/2 male and he and I are already attached to her. I hate this:mad: She is so cute. |
Sorry you are going through this.:( |
pup Why are vets NOT finding these problems BEFORE the breeder sells the pups...it is not uncommon for a puppy to have a slight murmur, most outgrown them...and did you know it is not uncommon for a Yorkie to have a slightly larger heart then normal also....a friend of mine has a York that was being treated for heart problems by her regular vet..among then an enlarged heart...so she took him to a cardiologist only to find out the heart was a normal size for an adult and the meds the regular vet prespcribed actually did kidney damage....when in doubt see a specailist... |
what did the health cert say. If SHE sold you the dog why does she have to call her Dad???? What is he going to tell you that you vet hasn't already done. Are they going to reimburse you for the expenses you have incurred now and in the future??? Trust me. Unless you have some money this may be a very expensive thing to endure. A consultation ONLY was going to cost me $90 with a cardiologist. |
I agree Yorkierose. I think some of these breeders and vets are in cohoots because she DEFENDED him. I told her she needed to find a new vet if he couldn't catch TWO ear infections much less a heart murmur. |
She called her dad and he said if I wanted to keep her he would only refund $50.00. :thumbdown She also said that I could bring her back and pick another one or get all of my money back. If I got another one she would refund my vet bill for today also. Any suggestions:rolleyes: I don't want to bring her back and just get another one like nothing happend. The vet also said that if when she was check if the murmur was not there and now it is there it is problably something bad.:( Thanks for all ya'll help:animal-pa |
I know it would be hard and you are going to cry about it but it is better then waiting. Have someone go with you. If she is willing to give you a full refund and reimburse you your expenses then take it. Wait a little while then start again. Your only other option is to keep her and deal with what ever happens or not. Yorkies are expensive enough to take care of as it is you haven't even had her but a minute and already you have a major problem. I don't think you will even be able to get pet insurance on her so the expense is all on you. |
