May be getting another Yorkie girl, but... I've been really wanting another Yorkie girl, but keep wondering if my baby Tika (who is 6.5 months old) would be opposed to it. Question for those who have more than one pup, how did your Yorkie react to the new pup? Tika gets so much attention now and is such a joy. I would hate for her to become jealous and start acting up (hmmmm...but I think my human children did that too) ;) Advice and stories would be greatly appreciated. (Also, can you tell me the age differences between your pups?) |
We got Rowdy in the spring of 05 and Rex in the spring of 06 - they are 1 year apart in age. They have the same father, different mothers. Rowdy was/is a joy - BUT he was a little jealous of Rexy at first. He was never mean to Rexy, but everytime we would hold Rexy when he came home, Rowdy would come and get between Rexy and our face. Rowdy will still occasionally do that, but only occasionally. Rowdy still shows a little jealously - which I think is perfectly normal. He and Rexy are best buds though, and I think they would be lost without each other now. They have a ball playing together!!! They sleep together. Rowdy starts begging us to go to bed about 9:00PM and we never go that early. Now, he and Rexy will go to bed together and he doesn't beg us to go with him anymore. I wish we had gotten two of them from the start! I say "go for it" - I don't think you will regret it. I know you will get lots of stories and sometimes I think the jealousy is more acute that it was with Rowdy, but I don't recall anyone saying that the dogs didn't eventually adjust and become good friends. |

I am sure Tika will adjust if you get a new pup. My two are a month apart in age. They have the same father but different mothers. They got used to each other instantly since they are so close in age. They are very independent of each other though and never lay down by each other,. Thy do play together though. |
Yay-I feel better! Your stories are so positive!! I will talk with hubby tonite and see what he says :D My 19-yr old daughter has a young male Yorkie (Madden) and I thought She and He would be home often, but unfortunately the "freedom bug" has got a hold of her and loves being out and about. So her pup is at her boyfriend's apartment more often than our home. Tika enjoys playing with Madden, so I'm hoping she'll enjoy a full-time sister even better (was just concerned about the jealousy thing). Thanx for all your wonderful advice - I'll keep you posted if/when the stork will be coming our way :D |
mine were fine, we had Brambles for years before we got Suzi and he is completly indiferent to her, She adores him! then it was another 4 or so years before we got Basil and they are all fine :) They get on really well :) |
