Car Mania! Help! Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get Snoodles to calm down in the car? She wants to go, gets very excited and runs and jumps in. The minute I leave the driveway, she starts whining and yelping! It drives me nuts! I don't know what her problem is or if I can correct it. I take her everytime I can, thinking she will get use to it, but she hasn't! I can't imigine putting up with this on a long trip! But, I won't leave her home! Any Ideas? Thanks! Pat |
When I first started bringing gracie in the car i brought her in her kennel because my dad said so :)!! she would cry a little but i would face her kennel towards me and talk to her....now that she is a little bigger i just bring a blanket and make a bed in the passenger seat and bring some of her toys...mostly those don't keep her busy and she ends up climbing into my lap and falling asleep....Last weekend I put her in her purse....with a big blanket in it so she could see out the window and she really loves that....but really gracie has just gotten used to riding in the car (i drive 2 hours home every other weekend) she has gotten better every time!!! Good luck, keep me posted on the wild thing :) |
Put her in the trunk..JUST KIDDING...is she secured in the seat? She might like to be in a crate or sometthing like that so she doesn't feel the "forces" while you are moving...they also have booster seat so dogs can see out of the window... :p |
I have the exact same problem with Biddy. It is to the point where I don't want to bring her out with me. It may be that she is overexcited to go wherever she is going. I only brought Biddy in the car if we were going somewhere fun with her (the park, my mom's house, the beach, etc.). Someone suggested that I start taking her on boring rides so that she won't get overexcited (drive around the block a few times & not get out) or even just sit in the car with her & not ever go anywhere. This way she will not associate the car ride with something really fantastic for her. I haven't tried it & Biddy is still bonkers in the car, but it makes sense & it's worth a try!!!!! Good luck! |
Perfect solution I purchased Hercules a car set yesterday at lunch. I paid $24.00 for it at Super Petz. Best investment I have gotten so far. It is very easy to install. He would shake and wimper the whole time we were in the car. Now he is up high enough to see out. It has a hook to attach his harness to it. We laughed so much last night when he took his first ride in it. No shaking, no crying, just watching. When we would come to a red light I would lower the window and he was having fun. Of all the things I have purchased this is the best. ;) |
Is that store online where you got the carseat? Rusty is driving me crazy with his panic and shaking and whimpering. I don't know why he just started behaving this way in the car. He has been on long trips and was no problem, but now just goes insane just getting in the car twice a day. He wants the windows down and he wants OUT! He refuses to ride inside his crate the older he has gotton. (sometimes I let him hang his head out the window-while I hold his harness- and he seems to like that. It's cute the way the wind blows his hair on his head-but at 60mph, he shouldn't be doing that! Maybe he has a need for speed?) |
Pat, does she continually yawn also? I am having the same problem and know that yawning is a sign of stress. |
Super Petz Super Petz does have a web site. www.superpetz.com. If you can not find it there I went out and looked at the name of the car seat. It is made by Pet Voyage. You can pull that up. I have a carrier made by them also. |

Thats it ! :) He loves it. I put it in the back seat. It was a little hard to figure out. There were no instructions. Look at the picture. Cross the straps over head rest. It crosses in the rear. I have an Expedition so I put it on the seat that folds down. |
Have you tried just sitting in your park car with her? My dogs used to get excited when I first started to travel with them. They got used to traveling so now they settle down quite fast. If I'm going a short distant I don't crate them( I really should but I don't.) If I'm going a long distant, they are always in a crate(safety reason)-A dog will more likely survive a car wreck if they are in a crate than if they are not. |
My husband has the treat of sitting in car. LOL. Last night we stopped at the grocery store. He set in the car with Herk while I ran in to get a few things. When I came out of the store I noticed my husband was turned sideways carrying on what looked to be like a deep conversation. I started smiling because I knew he was talking to Herk. He was sitting in his car seat. When I got out had to put the window up because he wanted to bark at everyone. :animal-sm |
I honestly ;have tried everything I can imigine. I've crated her--and covered the crate on our last long trip. Put her in the car seat where she can look out----put her in front with me on a pillow and connected her leash to the seat belt. I can't let her free, as she jumped in the wheel and got tangled and almost caused a wreck. She gets so excited and whining and yelping and jumping and scratching--I can't believe it. One funny thing, when we go to my daughter's house, she does the above all the way out there, but when we come home, she is good---don't know if it is because she is exhausted (they have 2 boys and 2 dogs) or if she knows we are going home. Biddy's mom! Isn't it frustrating? The only thing I haven't tried is sitting with her and not going anywhere. But, she usually doesn't do it until we are under way. However, if my husband leaves the car and I am sitting with her, she pants and whines all the time also. I am just at my wit's end! Pat |

Hilarious comment! Yes, crates work best for training purposes then as mentioned then can graduate to a blanket or booster seat. However, I have two booster seats and Schatzie has grown out of both. So, she pretty much lies down in the back seat (not in the trunk) and is pretty content. |
