What kind of clothes to buy I am going to Moochie & Co. today and want to get Maddie something to keep her warm since it is getting so cold. I am trying to grow her hair long and was wondering what to get that won't mat her hair. I thought a sweater material would mat more than a t-shirt material. I know alot of you dress your babies, so this would be a good place to ask. Thanks Joan |
You may find that your pup's coat will matt regardless of the material of the clothing - places like around their neck, their 'armpits', etc. where the fabric rubs just from regular movement. BUT, you are right and some will definitely matt worse than others - Oscar's coat is about halfway to the floor and his will matt more with knit sweaters. Cotton tees or sweatshirts and 'slinkier' materials. Come to think of it, even though they are likely one of the warmer things you'll find, wooly knits are probably the worst for matts. You'll be able to tell when you see/feel the fabric though. Be sure to post pics of your new finds! We love doggie fashion! |
Honestly, both of our babies have long coats and we have t-shirts, sweaters, jackets with nylon, you name it and they will matt. I still put clothes on them when I need to (when we go out ect). Just brush before and keep a small amt of coat dressing on her with a silicone base and this make brushing long coats out so much easier and keeps the hair from breaking, and brush out when you remove the clothes. I've explored and tried everything:rolleyes:Its not too bad though. Good luck! It is getting chilly. |
I agree that sweater material will cause more matting. If you are able to keep the fit loose, that will help, as will keeping a spray on conditioner on her coat and keeping her brushed out. I make nightgowns in a loose fitting, soft flannel for bedtime. Haven't had any problems with matting with these. |
We have the same problem - everyone is right:thumbup:  - put a little Ice on Ice or Cowboy magic in the worst places - under the arms - behind the neck and sides - well - pretty much ALL over lol - and it'll help cut down on matts - also - don't let them wear clothes ALL day and play - you'll find out the hard way what bad matts are - believe me - I did that when Cheri was a baby & it was a pretty bad mess. |
Where do you get this ice on ice or cowboy magic. Can you get it at petsmart, I'm going there today also. Joan |
