Its sad. But yet theres breeders saying dont buy from Petstores and turn around and sell their pups to Petstores..What I dont get is I hear this all the time Please do not Breed your female Just because you want another puppy.......Why put her in risk? But yet some of the people that are saying this are breeding their Females over and over. I ask why risk her life? I here there are to many unwanted dogs now ( Oh I agree with this 100%) So why are you breeding your females over and over? I hear I dont make one dime off these litters.............Then why risk your female and breed her to make puppies to sale if theres no money in it? If there are too many dogs now? Why chance it?Why make more? Oh and heres another one. DO NOT breed your female under 5 lbs. ( again I agree with this) But yet the same people that are saying this will turn around and post puppies for Sale very small Mommy 4lbs.........Or My friend has a litter of puppys They are very cute will be small both parents are under 5 lbs.......WTH ??? How can you preach one thing and do another? This is not aimed at anyone its just what I see on here all the time..It's crazy...and I have heard put a price on that puppy dont give it away. This way you will know that they really want it..
But I do agree with everyone these puppy mills need to be shut down, These poor dogs need to be loved not used and abused

I have seen this time and time again, but keep my mouth shut. I personally wouldn't breed, too many risk.

Dogs that come from individual places can be mistreated too .

This afternoon , I received a phone call to go visit a private breeder of Neapolitan Mastiff . The young lady had 1 male and 2 females . They were attached to trees . No food , no water . The vet euthanazied the male and one female . We'll try to take good care of the female left . Here a picture of Trudie .

I was very angry to see the irresponsability of the So called breeders . Why do peoples start in breeding when they are doing all wrong ?

This is so heartbreaking, and you have to wonder how many more are out there.

I am a breeder of Yorkshire Terriers, they live better than I do with the run of the house, I won't bore you again, as I have stated how I care for my little precious furbabies more than once on this forum.

I think I am going to take it upon my self to answer every add in the paper in our area that is advertising puppies for sale, and visit their home, if I see anything, and I mean anything that I consider abusive, or cruel, I will turn them into first the state, than animal control. Hopefully I will not see anything as sad as what as you just witnessed, but if we would all call on breeders in our area, make an apt. to see their puppies, and take a look at the conditions of how the animals are being treated maybe, just maybe we could get some of these breeders fined and put out of business!!!! I am sick to death of people getting into this business thinking they are going to make a lot of money at the dogs expense, as I said if you do it right, their is little money to be made, I am in it because of the passion I have for the Yorkie, every breeder should have nothing but the best of interest and care of the females they are breeding, if they don't than we need to get them out of the business. All these dogs are MAN'S BEST FRIEND, if you are not going to treat them that way, weather breeding or just owning, they need to be busted, and prevented from ever owning another animal in their lives.

I know I can't do it all by my self, but if everyone would just take a little time to make an apt. to see puppies in their area, and turn in the bad breeders, maybe we could help save the lives of some of these wonderful animals. Also improve the life of the animals that are not being treated fair!

The only way to get them regulated and to clean up their acts is to close them down, and cost them a lot of money in the process! Their is nothing is this world that hurts me more than cruelty to animals, and it has to stop! If AKC were to make a visit, they would get their privileges taken away and receive a 10,000.00 fine and closed down for a year! Then they would also be in trouble if they were not state licensed, if you have over 2 litters a year you have to be licensed by the state, another fine could be imposed, than if you are in the county and do not have a special use permit, they could order all the dogs off the property, these dog owners are responsible for registering their dogs with the city and county where they live once a year, if not registered, another fine! These are the rules in Colorado and in my county, I know all States and County's are different, find out about yours, and lets ban together to bust these people! All dogs deserve wonderful, humane , loving, and kind, treatment, their are so many no kill shelters out their that will help these animals, but first they have to get them.

Would love to hear about anyone that has been able to bust anyone for doing wrong to Gods precious creatures, people who abuse animals abuse children and other people. Let's all do our part to put a stop to it in our area!

God Bless Everyone who has the heart to check out what is going on in their own back yard!

Please lets all take a little extra time to see what can be done on a one on one. I know it would warm my heart to help these helpless animals. This forum is huge, and all wonderful animal lovers, I for one would like to make a difference. I also want to thank you for helping bust the people, and taking care of the one remaining girl. May God Bless you, and know the little girl is in my prayers.

As far as the puppy V's friend bought from a petsore happens all the time to others that came from a reputable breeder.

I have bought from pet stores in Hawaii where breeders want co ownership plus a huge amount of money 1500 at least and want to tell you when to show and breed my boy was a gem god bless his beautiful soul

I really hope the justice will do something . Trudie was hospitalized this morning.
The vet said she'll need extra cares and prayers because he is not sure she will make it .

Is this a life for a Yorkie . We found this little one was always attached to " his " tree as his " owner " said .

Also , I am very sad to tell you that Trudie ( Neapolitan Mastiff ) died .

Bruce's_Mom 11-25-2006 09:55 AM

OMG, please tell me that someone rescued that precious little yorkie?!!!

What are people thinking? These are not dogs that can handle the elements, they are delicate and need to be inside with their families. I am literally crying right now.

I am so sorry for the loss of your mastiff, this is just the sadest thread I have read in a long time.

Yes , the Yorkie have been rescued .

The Mastiff is not mine , she was rescued from very irresponsable breeder , she had 3 that were kept attached without food and water . Rescue team sent her at the Animal Hospital but she didn't survive , she was too weak .

And - almost none of us ever ended up with a pet that was sick or didn't thrive. In fact, none of us have.

I hate puppymills as much or more than most people - and I think that every last one of them should be shut down. And, I think there should be serious fines and even jail time for most of the people who operate these facilities.

But, I don't think that not buying puppies from pet stores is going to solve this problem or even put a dent in it. We need to go directly to the source and shut down the puppy mills themselves. This is the only way they will every be stopped.

Puppies at pet stores are darling and cute and as loveable as any other puppy in the world, and they deserve a loving home as much as any other puppy does. For this reason - I have no qualms at all about buying a puppy from a pet store. I think during my lifetime I have owned four or five dogs and a couple cats that were purchased at pet stores. And, every one of them was a wonderful pet - and most of them lived a long and healthy life and died from old age.....or close to it.

I have also purchased three birds from pet stores - and have loved and enjoyed every one of them. (I still have two of them.)

I got my Yorkie from a long-time, family-owned pet store here where I live. I was given the breeder's name and have corresponded with her and have gotten pictures and have learned a lot about my Yorkie's parents. I know this doesn't always happen - it's just the way it worked out with the Yorkie pup I got.

I got my Bichon, that I also have now, on line and he was flown from California to me in here in Washington. I went shopping on the internet because there weren't any Bichons in my area. And - he is a wonderful cute little guy that I am very fortunate to have.

I was given a kitten for my birthday - bought another at a pet store - found one in a parking lot - and another was just a stray that showed up at my door. Two others were from a litter that one of my cats had. (Of course, I didn't have all these cats at the same time).

When I was a child - one little puppy I got came from the dog pound - what a joy he was for nearly 11 years of my life.

My point is that a lot of the most wonderful pets we will ever have will come from a variety of different places. And, all of them are loveable and deserve a loving home.

*** I always feel bad when I hear people say, "I saw the cutest puppy in the pet store and I felt so sorry for him. I don't believe in buying puppies from pet stores, so I left - but I've cried for days -- I still cry every time I think about him."

I wouldn't buy a puppy from a pet store if I didn't want a puppy, but if I did want a puppy, and I saw one in a pet store that touched my heart - he would be on his way home with me. And, he would be going to a loving home and have a good life. And he (like all my pets have been) would be worth a million dollars to me.

***** I'm sure if you are looking for a purebred and especially looking for certain traits, or if you're interested in breeding and showing, you are better off dealing with a reputable breeder. But, if your main goal is just getting a wonderful little pet -- why does it matter where it comes from? Especially, when we remember that we can't find a little puppy anywhere that doesn't need a loving home - and that won't love us back a hundredfold - if we give it a family to call it's own.

Carol Jean

I wanted to respond to you before I read everyone's posts, because I'm guessing this thread is getting pretty heated.

You've brought tears to my eyes...and removed just a little of the guilt I feel for the pet store pups I've purchased over the years.

I think everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I think puppy mills need to be shut down.

But pet lovers everywhere should appreciate each other for what that are: someone who's giving a loving home to one or more dogs/cats/birds etc...and quit giving each other grief about where they got their dog or the quaility of the animal.

Good for you, you stuck your neck out.

However, I think it's ignorant to think that if people stopped buying puppies from pet store, it wouldn't effect puppy mills. It's all about supply and demand. If people didn't buy puppies from pet stores, the pet stores wouldn't buy from the puppy mills, and the puppy mills would suffer.

Yes, it's about supply and demand. But if people stopped buying pups from pet stores, I'm sure the puppy mills would find another avenue to sell their pups. Unfortunately, there is a greater demand for "purebred" pups than there is a supply of pups from reputable breeders.

I saw one at the mall last week that made me sick because their fur was matted and they smelled from pee and poop all over them. Not to mention MOST of the time they are yanked from their mothers TOO early and sent off in a truck to a petstore states away. Dogs are pack animals and they need socialization, not to be stuck by themselves all day in a cage!

Many, many people don't realize that there is any other way to buy a dog.

Tiggerwit 11-25-2006 12:24 PM

I'm sorry about Truie. What happened to the yorkie? I know you said it was rescued. Did it survive?

I went to the pet store yesterday and they had a bunch of puppies. The cutest little female yorkie for $1100, already micro chipped and stuff. Oh man she was cute. There was another one, a lab/retreiver mix. It was sad, the puppy was probably 4 to 6 months old in a fish tank. It was sad. I don't know why I got into places like that. Makes me cry.

I always just want to buy them all so I can rescue them.
