Maybe Reece isnt a yorkie??
 

Or maybe I was lied to? Reece's parents weren't reg. or anything, just your typical looking yorkies. I have a picture of his dad but never got a picture of his mom..even though she looked similar to the dad...like a yorkie. The only reason I took a picture of his daddy is because my daughter emily could not put him down, so I will attach a picture of his dad.

Reece looks like a yorkie BUT if I were to shave him down and let his hair grow back in, there would NOT be ANY black on him left. His hair is totally blonde underneath and the tips of his fur is the only spot thats black, so if that were cut he would be a blondie??? He must not be a pure yorkie right?? I know he LOOKS just like a yorkie feature wise and colour wise right NOW..what do you all think??

The first pics is Daddy and the second one kinda shows what Reece's hair looks like..his top line is totally blonde..about a half and inch has grown in..

I have seen pure breed yorkies that were totally blonde before and Reece looks like a yorkie to me.

I know some are born blonde (at least I think lol)..but Reece was born looking like a typical yorkie..I could care less really..I just wanted to see what everyone thinks?? Thanks so much for your imput!!

He is adorable. Both dad and baby. I think he looks all Yorkie to me. I've noticed that Yorkies vary so much in look. Elaine

looks like a yorkie to me. my sister in law has one totally blonde and beautiful.

He looks like one to me and yorkies hair does start coming in lighter, I will post a pic of Lexie she is lighter on top and is turn what they call steel blue on her back...So Yes you have a yorkie....:)

Look closely at Chester in my avatar. He was completely blonde/silver (of course, he was about 16 years old in this photo) and he was definitely Yorkie. I happen to love the blonde ones.

My Question is....
 

With some of the larger Yorkies, how can you be sure they are not Silky Terriers?

Wow, his daddy was a big Yorkie. I do not know if Reece is all yorkie or not; but, it may just be too early to tell about the color of his coat. The AKC standard says:
"Puppies are born black and tan and are normally darker in body color, showing an intermingling of black hair in the tan until they are matured. Color of hair on body and richness of tan on head and legs are of prime importance in adult dogs, to which the following color requirements apply:

Blue: Is a dark steel-blue, not a silver-blue and not mingled with fawn, bronzy or black hairs.

Tan: All tan hair is darker at the roots than in the middle, shading to still lighter tan at the tips. There should be no sooty or black hair intermingled with any of the tan. "

I've seen lots of yorkies turn light at an early age! He's all yorkie...I'd bet on it!

Daddy really wasnt all the big..the way I shot that picture make him look like a monster lol...he was 6-7 pounds..a good size lol..I wish I had a better picture of him lol...

I must say I am baffled by this thread ... you all have beautiful Yorkies ... they are all so cute and cuddly love muffins ... we all love our babies ... why is everyone (well, maybe not everyone) trying to pigeon hole the pups? I, for one, got my furbaby b/c she was cute (IMHO), and I fell in love with her ... okay her ears are floppy, who cares?
You notice when you give birth to your own child, when you go to the nursery you do NOT get to pick which one you want, you already know and love "your" baby .... Why don't we all agree to disagree (how trite is that?)
I never heard the expression "red leg" before, and truthfully, I was looking for legs that were RED .... I am not a maven on Yorkies, I just know what I love.

I am no expert, but I would definately have to say that yours is a yorkie. I know with mine, he had a lot more black on him before I gave him his first hair cut. It seemed wierd to me that I was cutting off all this dark hair, and the rest was more silver/blue and golden. I have never owned a yorkie before, so I didn't realize that they would "change colour." I don't think you have anything to worry about. I would never have questioned it, had I seen a picture of him without your post.

I am certainly NOT saying anything is wrong with my boy Reece..NO WAY!! I love him dearly!!! I am just questioning whether or not he is a yorkie or not...not that it really matters to me..as I have a yorkie mix already and love her to bit and pieces too!!! I think what concerned me is if I paid the price for a mix when I thought i was paying the price for a purebred..its not like if people said..no he isnt a yorkie, I would throw him out the door!! I dont care if he turns into a purple people eater...he is my baby boy forever and ever!! I also wondered if it happens that yorkies turn blonde or not. Reece is the cutest, funniest little clown who is as precious to me as my children are...ALL of my dogs are my extended family..children. You never know..maybe someone would have said..."I have a yorkiepoo that is blonde just like Reece" and that would have been fine with me too..I guess I expected since his mom and dad were tan and black he would remain that way too and it concerned me that he was turning blonde..maybe I was told something wrong?? Anyhow...I ADORE my dogs and certain am not pigeonholing (is that a word??) him a bit. I hope you understand how deep my feelings run for my dogs...as well as all of ours do...thats why all are here and the forum is so big...we just adore our babies.
