Crushing Puppy? Ok after having my baby for 1.5 years and the many night trying to get this sleeping thing right.. and Im talking, in the crate, out of the crate, in the living room, in the bedroom, earplugs headphones you name it we tried it. He is finally sleeping in bed with me. Now let me start with I do not at all mind him in bed with me. However, my boyfriend is convinced that one night he is going to roll over on him and hurt him. Diezel is never really asleep im convinced. His head pops up at every little movement. But what are the odds that he wont' pop his head up and gets trapped under my bf big ol' body. He does not live with me and is only here like 2 nights a week, but that makes it hard becaue last night diezel was NOT happy in the living room.. HELP! Am I making a stupid move by having him in my bed? |
your yorkie may be ok maybe you can teach him to sleep at your feet? or you could get him his own bed in your room. |
Both my babies sleep with me but they sleep right next to my feet. When I only had Timmy he would sleep right next to me or in between us. When we got Mimi she didn't like sleeping right next to us so then Timmy wanted to sleep next to her and now they both sleep together by my feet. |
Maybe have puppy sleep on your other side so he is not right next to the bf. If the bf is worried then he probably knows that he is a heavy sleeper. |
Adonis sleeps at my feet too. Seems he knows that I roll a lot in my sleep, and must have figured out on his own to move to the foot of the bed. |
Rex & Rowdy sleep between us and my husband flops around all night long like a dying fish :D and no crushing yet. They even sleep completely under a blanket on the top of the bed. I think your baby is safe - but that is a good idea to have him sleep on your side of the bed - rather than close to your bf |
All mine sleep with me, except Max (GSD), if you don't want to keep in in the bed with you, I would put his crate in your bedroom with you so he want get lonely...:) I don't think he will get crushed, they move pretty fast...:) |

Tiny sleeps in the bed with me and my boyfriend and he is a bog boy...He weighs like 200 lbs...He's a lot of muscle though...But I have never had a problem with crushing him...And He even sleeps under the covers the entire night? I dunno what you should do...He will know to move, if someone rolls on him...Trust me...A plus if you don't like the idea of letting him sleep in the bed...Then bring his crate into the room with you. Let him sleep next to you in the crate....That should stop the headphones and sleepless nights. They just wanna be near you thats all...Specially when they are spolied as bad as alllllllll of our baby's!!! :D |
hmm Maybe you could face the edge of the bed instead of where your bf is and keep the pup wraped in your arms so he doesn't fall over. Theres no way he could be crushed like that..unless your bf rolls over you too. lol |
We started out with Chico in a crate on top of an upside down laundry basket right next to my side of the bed. Eventually, he ended up sleeping in our bed, but he was getting up at night and peeing where ever. So now, at 11 mos, he is back in the crate at night, but I don't put him in until he has fallen asleep on the bed and is really out. I also found that putting him in "butt first" doesn't bother him as much. He wakes me up about 4 - 5 am. I take him potty then he gets in bed with us till we get up. Good luck |
when we first got Hope, I bought a TINY puppy bed and she slept in that, in my bed... it worked well and made me feel comfortable... my hubby sleeps rather like a "flopping fish" too... Now, she wont sleep in the "bed" so she sleeps in our bed... I put her blanie between our pillows and it works well... |
I wont I refuse to let any of my dogs sleep with me I love them very much however I would not sleep for fear of crushing them and accidents pee poop vomit dont want to roll in any of it |
I love my baby boy very much too but I prefer to let him sleep in his own bed. His crate is right beside my bed on my side. When we go to bed, he will go in on his own and I will wish him goodnight and wait for him to sleep. He will let me close his crate door when he is totally out. Around 4am, he will wake me up be scratching the crate door and comes out just to stretch and move around. Sometimes, we go back to sleep; me in my bed, him in his crate but if he doesn't want to sleep, I bring him to the living room couch and sleeps with me and he will sleep just because he is with me  He usually wakes up at 6.30am in his crate and if on couch, its about 8am. |
Both Kona and Bernie sleep in our bed. They like to be near our pillows if not under the covers. Kona is very good about moving if you roll over, Bernie on the other hand is a little slower in that aspect, but eventually he will move. |
In the Bed with US Let me start out by saying, I have a KING size bed and my husband and I are small people. Thus, both dogs sleep with us. The maltese sleeps at the foot of the bed and the yorkie curls up either next to me or my husband and usually sleeps there all night. Once in a while he will get down (we had to buy some puppy stairs so he could get up and down off the bed since our bed is so high). But 99% of the time, when I wake up, he is in bed with us. I neve worry about rolling on him, nor does my husband. The maltese has been sleeping with us for two years and the yorkie, six months and we've had no problems.:) |
Mayzie sleeps with us in the middle of the foot of the bed. She has her own fleece blanket that she makes a "nest" in everynight and we call that "her place" She generally stays there and sleeps all night. She always has been a good sleeper. Some nights she will creep up and when she does we just tell her to go to her place and she will--most of the time. If not, we pick her up and say "this is your place" and she stays there. It has worked out very well for us. |
Thanks everyone... another weekend came and went but my bf was only here 1 night and I kept Diezel in the living room only 1 night and he seemed totally ok with it. However, this week while I am at work and while he sleeps with me I keep his blanket on my bed by my head and hopefully he will stay on that while sleeping in the bed with us. I cant do just his crate next to my bed because he will do nothing but bark or whine until I put him in the bed. Literally all night long. There is no ignoring him.. he is relentless and just will not stop. Anytime I am sitting or laying anywhere he freaks if he cant get on top of me. And so no one thinks I let him just run free on this high bed, I keep my mattress and boxspring on the floor because I wanted to avoid ever having a situtaion where he gets to close to the edge and falls off. This way there should he ever fall it is not far at all. Also I have the puppy step by the bed or couch at all times :) |
I am worried my hubby will roll over on Sadie so...she sleeps on my left side under the blankets, curled up in my armpit! Maybe it's a mother thing but, if she moves I wake up. Lillie is our new furbaby...19 weeks old, she still sleeps in her crate. |

Oh it is definatly a mother thing. I too know where Diezel is anytime he is sleepign with me. But I can't lie, there are times where I woke up looking around for him and when he notices I am up he come right up under my armpit like yours...lol I had him in his crate for over a year and every time I tried to leave the crate door open so he could come out on his own to go potty the only place he was concerned with was coming to where I was and begging to be picked up. Hopefully his blanket in the bed will help me stay put during the night. |
My baby sleeps at the top of my head.. her pillow is kinda under mine.. kinda layered like .. she does fine and the other sleeps on the side of mine and my hubby head. so if you roll over you get a nose/mouth full of hair LOL IT WORKS FOR US |
Our pups sleep with us, no problems! I am rather large guy, over 6' and 200 lbs. They get out of the way, and they are tough little suckers, really! Little ellie will sometimes sleep on my pillow with me. Benson normally sleeps at my feet!! |

I have rolled on top of them before, and they were fine. They WILL get out of the way trust me!!! They love to sleep in the bed, and since they are clean animals and very sweet they make great bed mates! Plus- my girlfriend would have it no other way!!! Good luck |
We let Achilles to sleep with us sometimes and we have not crushed him. He loves to cuddle up right next to us when he sleeps. So, there have been times when my hunny has almost crushed him, but Achilles always is aware and moves over. I have found that he really likes to burrow, so majority of the time, he sleeps between our legs. We make a little cradle for him, with one leg straight and the other bent and he sleeps right behind our knees. It is too funny!!! :p |
