I wouldn't use it cause lets say..your walking down the side walk and your pup is free to roam on this leash..all of a sudden he spots another dog before you realize whats going on and by then his leash will be 5 feet away if not more and he cuold be in the street near cars or fighting with another pet. |
I have a ton of retractable leashes. I have at least two in each car 1 for each dog. I also use them when I take by dogs for a walk/hike. |
Mine has a lever that can be used to set the length of it, up to 10 feet. For example, if I were walking on the sidewalk near a street I would set it very short. It can be also be used with the flexible length when were in the park and other dogs aren’t around. I’m just worried about making a mistake and pushing the wrong button and reeling him in too fast. Do most of these have a button to set the length? |

i have one that only goes maybe 5 - 6 feet and I love it. If we are near a street and there is traffic, all I do is set it shorter. There's a little button that you push to lock it in and you can release it when you want. We have had much better luck with that than a regular leash. |

That's the same w/ our training collars. If you want your dog to pull you, put on a thick collar or a harness. Otherwise if the leash is attached to your prong collar or slip collar then that's a no go! It's the same concept we use for our K9's. If you're tracking, it's one collar and if it's bitework it's another. |
Don't use them! I had them......but don't use them, since I don't have constant control and it teaches them NO Discipline at all. I only used them when I wanted to let them run, but it was easier to just Train them off Leash. When I do their evening walk around the neighborhood one is on a 4 ft. leash and the other one is on a 6 ft. leash since they are walking in the street they must act civilized not running in 2 different directions like wild dogs.:confused: |

please be careful with retractable leashes. I ended up with stitches in my ankle last year b/c it got wrapped around my leg and Simon took off. I stopped using them now (since we are in training) and I really like the flat leashes a lot better. Simon and Hallie still have plenty of length to sniff around and play but it just feels so much safer for me. |
