1.09 lb yorkie at 12 weeks i bought a yorkie yesterday. I took her to the vet today for check up and she is only 1.09 lbs. at 12 weeks. I saw her 2 litter and they are a little bigger than her. The only reason why I got her because my daughter fell in love with her. I didn't see the parents though. Do you think 1.09 lbs for a 12 weeks old is too small or just ok? |
That is VERY small for a 12 week old pup. Make sure the pup is eating frequently and drinking water. A little nutrical never hurt anyone...it's also got lots of vitamins and nutrients in it. KEEP AN EYE ON HER. Once these little ones go down, it happens quickly. Would love to see picts of her. |

that is very small. At 12 weeks you double their weight to approximte their adult weight. |

very tiny for 12 weeks, she will probably be a 3 lb yorkie full grown. What did the vet say about her being so small? |

I dont think that is too bad. My yorkie was only 8 oz at 12 weeks (thats just half a pound) and she is almost 3 lbs now being full grown at 1 year 10 months. So I think if your girl is a pound she should at least be 3-4 pounds full grown which is small but not too bad. DEFINETLY be sure she eats every 3-4 hours for the first few months you have her or you can encounter some serious hypoglycemia problems. Trust me, I had 2 serious hypoglycemia attacks with chloe and it was absolutely heart wrenching and horrible. So to avoid going thru that just make sure she eats. Keep karosyrup on hand! My vet told me just to be sure chloe ate every 3-4 hours and thats what I did until she was 6 months old. I got up twice every night to make sure she ate. I also would put a little karosyrup in her water if I didnt feel she ate very much but you have to be careful not to give them too much sugar either. |
She will be small. Tia was 14 ounces when we got her at 13 weeks. She is just about 7 months and is a little less than 2.5 pounds. The advise I would give is make sure she is eating and drinking. I never had to use nutrical for Tia, I guess I was lucky, but I have never had a problem with her eating. Just keep your eye on her. Don't leave her unchecked for long periods. Watch your feet. I had one bad experience with that. Make sure shots are broken up, don't let a vet give her too many medications at one time. You mentioned your daughter fell in love with her? How old is your daughter? If she is young, I would suggest that she only pick up the pup under your supervision. These little guys can get squirmy and hard to hold for an adult. I don't let anyone under 14 pick up Tia. And last but not least try not to be overly worried. I have found that Tia is a pretty sturdy little thing who holds her own against her sister who is double her size. Best of luck and enjoy your new addition |
My little guy will be 12 weeks old tomorrow. He is 2 lb. 1 oz. I look at him and think of half the size for your little one -- very petite! But a small size seems to be highly prized. With all the good advice to keep her healthy you should have a great time with your little one. Looking forward to her pictures. |
i think she'll be fine. cash was 1.4lbs at 15 weeks. he's 2.1lbs now at 19 weeks. |
I don't think thats bad at all. That's what Stedman weighed at that age and he did JUST FINE! ;) Please do have some Nutrical on hand though, and I would recommend giving it before bed, and ANY time you have to leave your little one alone for a while. And heck, if you want to - give her some in the morning as well. It can't hurt 'em :) |
