Mean Yorkies!! Hi, I’m a new member and would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this forum. I’m so happy to have found it, so much great advise. When I first came here, I wasn’t certain that a Yorkie was the right pup for me. I think they are the cutest of all dogs, but I’ve got to say the Yorkie doesn’t have the best reputation with non-Yorkie owners. I’ve told 3 people of my desire to own a Yorkie, and all three said that they were mean little animals. I don’t know if this is because the Yorkie is a small dog and people don’t think they need to train small dogs, or because they remember an experience as a child and the Yorkie had been taught to beware of children! However, after but after reading thread after thread and learning of all of your love and devotion toward these little creatures, I am convinced the Yorkie is the best dog for me. This forum has helped me decide on a breeder, how to find one, and what to look for, and questions to ask. I am confident I have found one who has the best interest of the dogs at heart. We will be seeing her pups Friday. So, thanks to all the questions the answers, and especially those pictures. Nancy |

2 Attachment(s) Nancy Welcome to YT!!! You're going through such an exciting time. I loved that time when I was deciding on which breeder and puppy. I personally think people don't like yorkies because they are jealous that they don't have one, so they don't want you to have one ;) or they've just encountered an ill-mannered yorkie because of lack of training. Which really is not yorkie specific. Any dog who goes untrained can be mean and ill-mannered. I have the sweetest most gentle and loving dog. She has NEVER had a single mean bone in her body. She doesn't bark, unless someone is near my door, gives kisses to everyone, from 1 day old to 110 years old. Here are her videos, to show you how cute, smart and loveable she is www.dropshots.com/cocosmom I hope your visit with this breeder works out. Keep us posted. I'll be excited to see a new thread titled, "I GOT MY NEW BABY" :D It sounds like you've been preparing, so good luck and keep us in the loop. Here's some pictures of my evil mean yorkie  |

Hi Nancy, Glad you found us! One word for you: socialize! Socialize, socialize, socialize. As soon as your pup has all of his/her shots, start taking him out to meet the world. The goal is 100 new people and 100 new situations before they are 20 weeks old. The more you socialize your pup, the less likely he/she is to be "mean". Genetics also plays a factor. Be sure you meet the mom. Joey is far-and-away the best dog I've ever had. But then, I've also spent more time socializing him and taking him to obedience classes than I have any other dog. Probably no coincidence, right? Again, welcome! |

I agree...socializing is SO important. My Topher is just a year old and has the sweetest disposition. Not a mean bone in his body. Any dog can be turned mean by how they are treated...but if they are brought up with kindness, love, praise, praise, praise and more love, they should grow up to be a wonderful pet. Good luck and welcome to YT! |

Vainchic5, I’ve seen your videos, they are a so precious. I got tears in my eyes seeing you rock Coco. She is so adorable. How old is she, and what age did you start teaching her tricks. FirstYorkie, Joey is name I selected for my dog! We live on a greenbelt (in Arizona that’s a park-like place with grass and a small lake) there are many walking paths throughout. As soon as the vet ok’s it, (and I get the dog) I’ll be taking him out. Funny thing is I don’t even own a Yorkie yet, and I really get irritated when people say this. Two were strangers, a guy at Lowes and a woman at fabric store. I’m building and making things for my new family member and people are saying he’s gonna be mean, I just feel like biting them! |

Nancy, welcome to YT. Sounds like you are going to be a GREAT yorkie mom! Good luck with the breeder on Friday, I hope you find your dream yorkie. I won't tough the mean comment with a ten foot pole. I'd get toasted for sure  :D . I have four and I love them more than words can tell. |

Mean, I don't think so, I am a teacher and when I take bentley with me in a class with 20, 5 years old he is the most adorable dog...:aimeeyork |

OMG I swear a couple of you stole my dogs. Vainchick5's little one looks just like our Titan, and the face of iloveloui's little one looks just like Roxi's face. I have a daycare in my home and my dogs see tons of people, all ages, and we have never had any problems. Unless you consider licking violent behavior.:p |

4 Attachment(s) Okay, I'm in my husband's settings on the computer (he has a bunch of work up and won't let me switch to mine). Anyway when I'm browsing through my pictures it won't show me the thumb nails, so I'm just picking these with out really knowing what they are. The first is of titan and a puppy. the next one both dogs, the next one is roxi and puppies and the last is Titan. Knowing my luck these will be pictures where they look nothing like themselves. If that's the case later I'll post more pictures.;) |

Okay, when I'm on my settings I'll find better pictues. Those don't look so good. |
