New Yorkie Hello to all, I have a brand new 10 week old puppy. Her name is Abby, she weighs 1.8 oz. She had her vet check up yesterday and she's not only pretty but also healthy, except her teeth may have a bit of a over bite. Is this unusual or common? She already is fetching pretty good, walking on a leash alittle and best of all she potties most the time on her pee pee pads. Laurie |
Congratulations on your new baby. Her adult teeth will probably be different then her puppy teeth that she has now. Enjoy her and welcome. Telea, Zoe' and Mia:) |
Hello Abby Congratulations! I have a 11-1/2 week old male named Ben. He just went to the vet today and weighs in at 2.1 pound. He got a  on everything too. I think your little Abby may be ahead of him on the pad training. We're batting about 50/50 there. Wish you continued success. :welcome4: |
Congrats on your new baby! She will steal your heart! |
Hi I can't help you with the overbite- just wanted to say welcome and congratulations on your new baby! You're gonna have a ball! |
Hello and welcome. Congrats on the new pup! An overbite is considered a fault. But it is nothing to worry about if you arent breeding or showing the pup |
Congrats! May you have many years of joy! Teri |

If a puppy has an overbite or an underbite, how likely is it that this will go away when the adult teeth come in? |
Welcome to YT! congratulation on you new pup! |
QUOTE["If a puppy has an overbite or an underbite, how likely is it that this will go away when the adult teeth come in?"]QUOTE That depends; take a look at this page: http://www.barkbytes.com/medical/med0021.htm IT gives info on puppy "-bites." Some will self-correct. The site says: "Some puppies that are born with an overbite might self-correct if the bite is no larger than the head of a wooden match. In most breeds of dog the bites are "set" by the time a puppy is ten months old. An overshot bite will rarely improve after the puppy reaches ten months. Some puppies with overshot bites will experience difficulties when their permanent teeth come in. Due to the increased size of the permanent teeth, as they come in they can damage the soft parts of the mouth. Overbites should be carefully watched, as sometimes extractions become necessary. " |
Welcome to YT! Congrats on the new baby..show us some pics! :D |
Thanks for the warm welcome. I'll try to post a picture of Abby soon. |
Welcome to YT! You will love it here! d |
Hello. I am new to the site also. I will post pics soon. Once my computer at home is up and running again. I was going to name our newest dog Abby if it were a girl, but we ended up with a boy, so we went with Jaxin. He's a hairless chinese crested. Our yorkie is a "teacup" at 3.3 pounds. He will be 1 year old on Nov 4th. His name is Oliver, and he's just adorable. He also has a little overbite:D , but I totally love it. Every once in a while his tiny, little tongue will peek out of his mouth a little bit when he is really relaxed, or sleeping. :p It is the cutest thing. I am pretty sure that it is due to his overbite. His adult teeth are in now. He just had all his baby teeth pulled, because the adults grew in, and the babies never fell out, but they look perfect now. His overbite has not changed at all, but it really isn't noticeable to anyone but us. I don't see how it would change with the growth of adult teeth, since an overbite it usually due to a smaller, or futher back set, lower jaw (I think). I wouldn't worry about it anyways. It just adds character.:) |
oh you are so lucky Quote:
You are going to have a great time with your baby and watching her grow ... you will never find a truer friend. Debbie |
