Picking out your Yorkie What should I look for when picking out my pup? Is there anything in particular I should be looking for such as their coats, size, personality? |
Well...... This is a long term commitment. A well taken care of small breed dog can have a life expectancy of 12-20 years. You need to decide what you personally want in your new baby. What size do you want? What color do you want? What coat type will you be able to best care for? There are higher chances of genetic defects with puppies that the parents are related to each other. So, make sure that the breeder that you go to absolutely does not inline breed. Good luck with your search, Teri |
And when you select the breed you want, please do your research! A pet is a long-term commitment and doesn't need to be entered into lightly. As said in the previous post, once you know what size/coat/temperment suits you, you are one step closer. If you are interested in a yorkie, please search this site as well as reading books on the breed. There are so many great people here with tons of advice and helpful information. Best of luck to you! |
The best way to find the coat/size/temperment you want is to look at BOTH parents and if possible the grandparents. That will give you the best idea of what your puppy will turn out to be like. |
Put personality and temperament above looks. |
Clear gunk-free eyes, no bald spots on coat or mats, active, normal breathing, and acting like a normal puppy should |
to be honest, unless you are going to breed or show your new puppy the only thing that's truely important is your closeness, the puppies temperment towards you, and the HEALTH! but don't be fooled, when I sawmy baby in the pet store she was a calm sweet baby as soon as she was home she hopped around everywhere! lol |
