Adopting older pup? I am thinking about getting a 10mo old pup. The problem is that he is not housebroke. He has been living in a kennel. Are older pups hard to housetrain? I know Kitty was a bear trying to housetrain her and I got her at 9wks. I need to make a decision on this but am having a hard time deciding. Thanks for any advise you can give me. |
When we rescued Gage, he was 6 months old and not housebroken. It took me about a week to train him (maybe a little longer but I was suprised how quickly he caught on!) on pee pads and he's not "missed" since them (he'll be 2 in just over a week). I think that with a lot of patience and love, you can housetrain an older furbaby. If you have a chance, I say go for it! Keep us posted on what you decide.....and best of luck to you:) |
I would think it would be the same house training him as a new puppy. You just have to start from scratch |
Jade was 1 year 1/2 when I rescued her . It took her about 3 weeks to know what a wee pad was . Actually , I have a new rescued 3 years old girl and as soon as she'll feel better , I'll start her on the pad . All it takes is patience , patience and patience . |
Well, it doesn't look like I'm going to be able to get another yorkie right now. :( My husband is in the military and is getting ready to leave again. The money will be tight while he's away so I am going to have to put off my search for a new yorkie member. Thanks all for the aswers to my questions. |
yorkies usually cant be trained until after 6 months anyways! I'm sure it'll be no problem for you just be consistent and don't get frustrated most yorkies are REALLY hard to potty train I still have some problems with 9month Tila that we've had since she was 3 months! |
