ah! that's really scary I'm glad I live where there aren't any owls well not big ones! |
 That is scary. We live with red tailed hawks around. But worse than that are the cyotes! We had a bassett hound years ago and he used to go out with us watching without a leash. We would stand right next to him and he never gave us trouble. One night he saw something up the street and went tearing after it. It was 3 cyotes! They really bit him up badly. My husband was able to scare them off. But boy was the vet bill expensive. Poor thing he was trying to protect us. He survived and lived to a ripe old age. But I learned my lesson and never take Daisy out without a leash. She would not fare as well as our old Bassett did against cyotes. Well that is the price to pay for living in a rural area:animal36 |
Yikes, this reminds me of this video that was on TV in Alaska of an Eagle nabbing a toy poodle! I am glad we do not have much dangerous wild life in our neck of the woods! |
Yah, it was cool to see and I didn't even think about the Halloween connection! We live on the lake but we are in town...I guess it didn't used to be but progress and growth kind of swallowed it up! We've seen several deer about a block away, the Bald Eagle, the owl, blue herrin and a smaller white herrin (I think), ducks of all kinds, Canadian geese, seagulls and we've been told there are fox and cyotes but we haven't heard or seen them and hopefully we won't! The wildlife here is amazing...I take pictures of the ones I can catch. The boyz are safe with me...I'm a very protective Yorkie Mom and believe me...man or beast would have a hard road to go if they tried to snatch one of my babies! |
Wow...I never realized the dangers that could be lurking for our babies. I live in the middle of the city so we seldom see hawk, eagle or coyotes but I guess I should remind myself again and again if I ever bring him to the countryside. I have a friend and her dog was off leash at a heavy wooded park and her dog went lost. When they found her, she was dead from a coyote bite :( |
How scary! I've seen one fly over head on a dark road, they're humongous. |
I am glad your babies are okay...I was driving down a road the other day behind my house and it is wooded a big Owl came from nowhere & I slamed the brakes because I didn't want to hit it but man was it big...I didn't realize how big they are....:) |
Wow! This is frightening! I would be mortified if a big bird swooped down on one of my babies! Even if they were on leash, which mine usually are, and I'd for sure put up a heckufafight, a small dog would still be left with some kind of injuries after all that. I can't even imagine. |
Yep, they're big and when they look at you from a few feet away...they're even bigger! We just went out for dinner and I noticed we have a little bird sleeping above the window at my office area...we must have moved into the animal house! I'm sorry to hear about your friends dog Potter. When we leave our deck area the boyz are always on their leashes...our deck is huge, they have plenty of room to run free there and in the house. I just don't want to take any chances with them. |
WOW I was worried about hawks and owls since chewy came home... My hubby just built a roof over Chewy's potty area... He never goes out alone but I don't put him on a leash because he is carried and then put in a pen... Now we have a roof so no rain, no snow, and wild life to get him!!!!:) |
We live with alot of wild life... In the past month there have been about 6 buzzards as well as their raven or crow sidekicks taking perch in trees behind our house, we live on a river, Last week we came home and there were 3 HUGE raccoons on our front patio and there is also a huge skunk that hangs out here. To top it off there is an eagle as well as a few goldens that have been hanging out in the same trees as the buzzards. I dont know what is up but the pups dont go out unless they are in there covered pen but have recently been stopping that since ritz has figured out how to escape.Luckily as soon as he escapes teh other dog starts barking and we catch him . eeks Bonnie |
Wow, so glad are okay. The owl is gorgeous by the way. I love all animals ;) |
Wow! What a great shot you got of that owl! Very scary though! I heard an owl in our evergreen tree one night and it was too dark to see him. I haven't heard him since, thank goodness! So glad you spotted him before he decided to have another snack! |
Wow what a scare!! I'm glad you and the babies are ok!! |
