Not getting a yorkie :( Well, my birthday is in exacly 4 days and im not getting a puppy anymore. The breeder I chose just didnt work out. and looking at the cost of other yorkie puppies, i dont want to make my boyfriend pay that much for my birthday, This is high school so he is probably a) working his butt off to get the money or b)getting it from his parents. and i dont like eether of those choices, so i just told him that maybe another type of present would be better.. he reluctantly agreed. I woke up this morning thinking "ONLY 4 DAYS TILL I GET MY PUPPY!" and then i remembered and starting crying for really no reason. I wanted this puppy so much, and now its gone, just like that. Weeks and weeks of planning and enthusiasm. gone. in no less that a day. I stil want a puppy sooo bad, and im thinking of buying one for myself but, my parents are refusing to pay for the dog, its always been like that with them and animals. i pay for the dog, they pay for supplies, vets, groomers ect.. . But yorkies arent exacly cheap, the cheapest ive found in or around miami is $1200. Im not looking for a show dog, or a dog to breed.. i just want a yorkie well i guess thats what i get for getting my hopes up again :( Jacky |
Jackie -- don't give up on your dream! You have hit a set-back but that does not mean the dream cannot still come true eventually. Keep looking at the papers in your area -- every once in a while I still see yorkies offered for $600-800 -- not breeding or show quality but great pets, get your name on file at every animal shelter in your area as wanting to adopt a Yorkie -- consider a mix or older dog, contact the Rescue organizations, offer a breeder work towards payment, get a part time job and SAVE. When you really have to work towards a goal, its achievement is all that more fulfilling. Good luck to you! |
Sorry to hear this..Yorkies are NOT a cheap breed..Where I live they start at $1000. and go up from there...Have you thought about trying a yorkie rescuse? Good Luck in your search |
Good luck in your search. I'm sure you'll have on eventually. You might want to think about your future a little bit... Are you thinking about going off to college in a few years? If so, having a puppy might be hard to live in the dorms, etc... but just because you can't get one now, doesn't mean that you can't get one later. Keep your head up! |
I think you are a very nice girlfriend to think about your boyfriend. You're right - it is a lot of money for a high school boy. It's sad that you did not get this one, but I know there is the perfect yorkie in your future. Good luck. |
Things happen for a reason. Just give it some time, great things come to those who wait! ;) |
how sad!!!! i had wanted a yorkie for such a long time...every now and than i would come so close and then it just wouldnt work out. but now i finally i have her and she is more perfect that i could have ever dreamed of. keep looking...you will get the yorkie one day and realize why it didnt work out with the others. look in the paper....go to sun sentinal.com , then classified....there are ads all the time...if you call in time you might get a really good deal...i agree about the dorm thing though. you might want to consider how you would care for the yorkie in a dorm and if they even allow pets??? most do not.....maybe look into get an student housing apt or something?? i am from florida too...where were you thinking of going to college?? |
So sorry to hear that...I can relate, wanted a dog for a few years but I wasn't in a situation that I could have one :( . I'm sure that in your future there's a dog waiting for you as well, don't give up. It's surely worth waiting, maybe try a Yorkie mix or rescue shelters? Unfortunately dogs aren't cheap, and Yorkies need grooming every month or so... Good luck. |
Don't give up ! You're such a nice girl so maybe Santa will bring you a yorkie ! |
Have you considered looking out-of-state? I'm in Ohio and was able to get my little girl for $750 (which is dirt cheap all thing considering!). She is not show quality, but she is darn cute and purebred. The cost/time of driving 4-5 hours (maybe more) isn't bad if you can find one that is more in your price range. |
Maybe you could find one at a local rescue or shelter? It may not be a puppy but hey its still a yorkie:cool: |
Well Im planning on going to UM (university of Miami), they dont allow dogs in dorms but there are soo many apartments ect.. in the area that do allow pets, that that problem is easily solved. And my sister goes to U.M now, she lives in a no dogs allowed dorm with her maltese, and shes had no problems. She got the dog in her sophmore year of high school and in preperation for colledge taught the dog that barking when the door bell rang ect.. was unacceptable and the dog knows a command where she yells "NO PUPPY IN HERE!" outside the door, her maltese runs into her crate thats hidden in the closet and stays there until my sister calls her name, its soo cute, and not a bad idea eether lol |
keep your hopes up sweetie....we found our nugget while my boyfriend was delivering pizzas.....he was only 200!!!!! just keep looking eventually you're bound to find a baby within your price range....i would talk to my breeder and see if she has any on the way...but i live in ohio....unless you could make a trip or something....but good luck!!! :) it took me 6 years to get a yorkie but i found him!!! |

That is the cutest trick I have ever heard, and so clever also .... good luck with your search ..... Things happen for a reason and at the right time ... Debbie |
Good Heaven's - but for sure - I think buying a Yorkie for your girlfriend is a little much for a "highschool" boy. I think a lot of our husbands don't coming close to spending that much on birthday presents. I agree with another poster - wait until you're older. Wait until you leave home and finish school (if you do go on to school) - wait until you have a good job and a place where you can keep a Yorkie - a pet-friendly apartment or a home of your own. Start saving your money now - and when the right time comes - go and buy yourself "two Yorkies." Yorkies are worth waiting for -- as is any wonderful little pet. Good Luck! Carol Jean |
Sorry for the long post! Aww I'm so sorry to hear that you aren't getting your puppy :( I'm 22 and just got my yorkie this year... my parents aren't dog people and would never let me have one. So I waited until I finished college and got my own apartment and a stable schedule. I thought about getting one while in college, but your college years are so unpredictable. You never know what your life is going to be like from semester to semester. What if you decide to pledge a sorority and you have to be with them 24/7 while you're doing it? Maybe you'll want to study abroad for a semester. You'll probably move 3 or 4 times throughout school.. are you prepared to re-train the dog in every new housing situation? What about roommates? I had to send my cat home to my mom b/c my roommate turned out to be allergic. What if the dog gets sick; can you afford to take care of it or will your parents pay for it? As much as you don't want to think about it, most college students are BROKE! Lots of stuff comes up in those 4 years. You also have to think about your life after college. You could wind up getting a job that requires you to be away from home 10 hours a day. What happens to your yorkie then? Luckily, I work less than 2 miles from my apartment and come home every day at lunch. Dogs are a gigantic responsibility. I skip lots of fun twentysomething stuff for Howie. I work 30 mins outside of Philadelphia and if I didn't have Howie I would live in the city and be around lots of other fun people my age. But I have him, so I live in the suburbs close to my work so I have more time with him and he has a yard to run in. I rarely ever go to Happy Hours and I really limit my time out on the weekends with my friends b/c I don't want him to be home alone for too long. I don't mean to rain on your parade.. I'm just sharing my college experience and what went through my head when I was in college and wanted a puppy. If this stuff isn't applicable to you, then I hope you find one soon! I was persistent in my search and was willing to drive a good distance and I got Howie for $800. These little dogs are definetly worth every penny! |
there will be a right time Quote:

Don't give up!! Don't give up. Like other post, I waited for many years to have another yorkie. I am still wondering if I can do it or not. (I'm planning to adopt one next month!!) With my new job, I can come home during lunch and also I can sneak a yorkie to my office once in a while. But still I wonder if I can provide a good stable happy home for my yorkie. Until this new job, I told myself I can't have a yorkie because I work 60 hours or more a week and business trip few times a year. I couldn't give all the attention that yorkie deserve. Now I found a new job where the hours are more flexible and close to home. Things happens for a reason. I'm sure the right time will come to you soon and will find a perfect furbaby!!!! |
I agree don't give up. It has taken me years to fulfill this dream! |
I waited a loooong time for a Yorkie too and now I have one :D My hubby had never had a dog before and is afraid of having one because he simply do not know how to deal with them. My in-laws never had a pet and do not encourage us so I waited and waited and be patient but eventually I wanted a puppy so badly because I felt so lonely here and patience do pay off ;) Yorkies in my area can cost anywhere from Can$4k(show quality) or more to Can$300+ (adopting from shelters). My baby was $700 because he is a pet quality and he was the last of the litter and the others were all sold so the breeder was pretty easy to negotiate with :p Wait until you are more financially sound..it is not just buying a puppy. It is also buying his supplies, toys, good food, vet visits that will also take up some costs. Good luck to you and be patient. Your doggie will come by, just keep on praying for your puppy. |
