Nail Biting? Does anyone have any clue why a puppy chews her nails? I just got her nails cut because I thought that was the problem, but she is still chewing them and breaking them off. Anyone have any suggestions? |
Some dogs can develop neurotic habits just as do humans. I would stop the behavior whenever I observed it and might even put some booties on for short periods. I've never heard of this before, but I suppose anything is possible. Have you talked to your vet? |
TJ bites his nails and drives me insane. The spilt and crack. I try and stop him when he does it. I brought him to the Vet to cut his nails b/c they do a really good job, the tech said to come back every 3 weeks and we can get them real short in time, so hopefully this will stop soon! |
Can you put something on them like thats sour to the tatse? |
My dog does that too! I have no idea why though.. |
For sure -- keep them as short as possible - and, as someone suggested, the oftener they are trimmed the shorter you can cut them. *** Also - I think that your puppy chewing on very short nails might bother/hurt him (because there isn't any extra nail to chew on) and help cause him to quit doing this. My Mitzy used to do that too ................Vet said it was allergies to grass... so i put booties when she whent out in the yard. Also wash feet with warm water . hope that helps. |
You can try rubbing a little bitter apple on their nails. On the bottle it says it's safe to spray on fur in case they're biting themselves. |
Cooper does this too. He chews the nail and the licks the parts on the side of his little paws. I asked the vet about it and he said it could be allergies to the grass or just being bored. He told me to watch him because if the paws stay wet, he could get a yeast infection on his paws.:thumbdown So I asked if there was anything I could do to stop him and he told me that you can give him a 1/2 teaspoon of benadryl with a baby dropper. It helps alot. Don't get me wrong I don't drug him. After I give it to him we usually play with one of his toys to take his mind off of the chewing. Well I hope this helps with the problem.:animal36 |
