Yorkie size question I will be buying a female yorkie in the next year. I want her to be pretty small at full grown but im not sure how Ill know if she'll be tiny when she is full grown. What are some tips as to how I can know that I will have a really small yorkie at full age? |
You really can't know for sure. A really small puppy can have growth spurt later on. Two little parents can have a large puppy. You have to trust the breeder and even they don't always know. I too wanted a little yorkie this time around and I lucked out. I saw both of Debbie's parents and they were both small. Debbie weighed a pound and a half at 10 weeks. Many people are leary about tiny dogs though. Sometimes they aren't the healthiest but I've been lucky so far. |
A good start would be if the puppy weighed not more than a pound and a half at 8 weeks or 2 1/2 pounds at 12 weeks. This should give you a dog about 5 pounds at maturity. Take a kitchen scale with you (available at Target, Walmart for about $10.00). It's important to look at the parents, but it's also important to know the size of the grandparents, great grandparents, etc. Find someone who has bred the same two parents before and contact the owners of the previous litters. This should give you a good idea. |
